the most common bollock-drop seems to be accidental erasing of the SKC when attempting to programme keys in, sliding the little bar from 1 to 0 and hey presto no starting
I take it you mean when attempting to program the immobiliser chip, not the remote? I've done remote key coding before with success.

When using the remote you return the saved value (normally 1 or 2) to 0 to clear all matched keys and then rematch them... from what you've said above... you don't do that when messing with the immo?

yes thats correct, the fobs dont tend to have problems but i have seen it where people have tried to match new transponers to the immobiliser and erased the keys by mistake, normally when they dont have the SKC, how - im not sure but they manage it. Usually with cheap leads aswell which i was under the impression didnt even give you that capeability?

I see.

People who go trying to code the transponder to the immo without the SKC are asking for trouble really, VCDS never has been a tool for reading the SKC, though it will allow you to enter SKCs. You know all this anyway.

I think the cheap cables will give you the capability on non-CAN-BUS diagnostic cars.

Dealer is your best bet unless you know a specialist with the capeability to do key coding, we can but unfortunatley your a million miles away. Dealers are not cheap though.
