What keys do you get with your Cupra`s?

When I picked my Cupra up 5 weeks ago, I only got the 1 key, the remote central locking key with buttons on.

The dealer lost the spare key with the security tag on it.

Just been down there to shout at them, as I`ve waiting long enough. And magically out of thin air, he gave me a standard key
(with no buttons on) !!!

I need to go back tomorrow to have the Immobiliser information
read off the car because I drove my Westfield down the garage (its a nice day today) . Then they`ll fax Seat UK with my immobiliser information, then go back on Friday to have the
immobiliser taught about the new key.

I`ve actually got the key in my hand now, so the dealer can`t give it to anybody else!!.

The dealer said you only get 1 remote central locking key, and 1 standard key. Is this right?

Or am I being fobbed off again? Like the way I`ve been for the last 5 weeks every time I phone them up.

Also, if I just have a standard key, will I just be able to start the key without having to fiddle about de-activating the immobiliser?

Obviously I`ll have to use the key to open the door instead of
using the remote central locking.

I just don`t want to have to fiddle about trying to deactivate the immobiliser if my other key packs up.

The dealers right I. afraid. I bought my Cupra around a month ago and got one remote key and one standard key. My Father's got a 1.4 Leon and he got exactly the same and was quoted around £100 for a second remote key.

Its a bit of p*ss-take by Seat in my opinion . I can't belive a second remote key would cost that much, if they did for every car.

(To be fair, though, I know Citreon only supply one remote key for their cars).

I must admit I never use the standard key, but I was told by the dealer it swicthes off the alarm when you open the door and it still has the immobilser gubbins in it.

I had one remote and one non-remote key, but since mine came with a Cobra alarm system and two cobra remotes, it hasn't been a problem.

The fact your dealer has lost both the key and the security tag concerns me. There is currently a key not under your or the dealers control that will unlock your car and start it. If like a lot of dealers when they get the keys they put a tag on them with the vehicle registration number, then if someone has the key they know exactly what vehicle it will fit.

Even if they remove the lost key from the list for the immobiliser, it could still be used to unlock the car. Does anyone know if the code on the security tag can easily be used to reprogram the immobiliser using VAG-COM, thus re-enabling this key?

Personally if the dealer had lost any of my keys I would be looking for all the locks on the car to be changed at their cost else they could be a problem with an insurance claim if the car was stolen using lost keys - Suggest you talk to your insurance company about this.

Have you tried the NEW key the dealer gave you to see if it fits the locks - they would have had to order a key to fit.

That really is a shocking pun on a thread about keys... Keys - fobbed off - get it? Oh well, maybe it was just me...

Anyway, if the security tag is attached to the missing key, i'd be expecting a bit better treatment - considering that details the lock number aside a few other things. That said, anyone is unlikely to get any replacement locks or keys in a hurry if my recent experience of a 5 1/2 week wait for a replacement lock barrel is anything to go by...

Well, strange story really. I went in there today to give them some stick. The guy went out the back to find my key, when he came back 5 mins later he said "Sorry, I don`t know where your key is, I know we ordered it, I`ll order another one and call you when it comes in".... But this the same story I`ve heard for the past 5 weeks.

So, I told him I was not happy at all, and after getting my teeth stuck in, he disappeared out the back again.

A few mins later, he came back and said, "Got your key".

So either:
a) I`ve got some other customers ordered key.
Which I find hard to believe as you have to order the key
especially for THAT particular car? Or am I wrong?
b) He didn`t try hard enough to find my key and suddenly found it.

I think its more likely, b). because the new key shape looks exactly like the one I`ve got.

At the time, I didn`t have my Leon with me. So I`ve got to go
back tomorrow to have my immobiliser information read off.
Then he said they`ve got to fax Seat UK for some security code
before they can teach the immobiliser about the new key.

My car is on a different registration plate than when the car was sold because previously the car was on a private plate. So whoever has my key would have to be pretty lucky to stumble on my car. Nether the less, the risk is still there though.

Picking up my Audi on Monday after chopping in my Leon after two good years of motoring. I too only got one remote, one standard and "£100 for another remote" from my SEAT dealer.

Anyway, my Audi comes with two remotes, each with the little flip-out key which is fab, and a standard 'stand by' key. And these remotes open and shut the windows, open just the boot, open just the drivers door if you want.

Now if SEAT's parent group can do it, why the hell can't SEAT?

Same with Ford

It's the same deal with my girlfriend's Focus, one remote key, one standard key. £100 for a new remote key AND Ford will charge you to program the new key to the immobiliser. But in my case the nice gentleman at the service desk told me how to do it for nowt (something along the lines of switch on, switch off, switch on, switch off, hold in position II, burp, scratch your arse, remove key, bob's your uncle...)

Can't blame Seat for their key policy, but a worrying lack of attention on the part of the dealer.

No pun intended when I used the term `fobbed off`

Phoned Tesco`s insurance this evening to ask them whether it would be grounds for a claims refusal if I didn`t demand new locks from the dealer. They couldn`t answer my question, instead they suggested I call the Tesco`s claims line to see if they can help. I need to do that in the morning.

I guess that the Dealer should be able to tell me my missing security tag details?

This is starting to leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Piss-up in a brewery springs to mind.
