Depending how well it's been looked after it is hard to tell. Obviously things like starter motor , turbo , stearing pump etc are all going to be getting tired also , so expect some cost in replacements . Personally if you are looking to buy it , and it hasn't a shed load of receipts / stamps , then I would stay away . Pending cost of course .

Diesel engines generally go on forever if looked after. I was talking to a taxi driver who had a 1.9 diesel engine (skoda) and he was on 260000 miles, he bought it off another taxi driver at 3 years old with 130000 on the clock and said he hadn't had anything go wrong in that time.

From personal experince on a 194000 mile 1.9 diesel I would expect to have changed the following:

Clutch
EGR valve
Starter motor
Alternator
Aux belt tensioner
Camshaft
Coolant temperature sensor
Thermostat

If its one you are looking to buy then bear in mind the resale, using it till it finally gives up the ghost is one thing but many are bought with 150k+ and are still going strong, my cupra TDi is nearing 180k and still pulls like a train and I bought it at 160k...

It's one I'm looking and buying and keeping for as long as possible the cars immaculate it's got a part service history cambelt and water pump got done in November got a new mot and had three owners from new the previous owner has had it for three years himself and has services it regularly the interior is in good condition too the only thing I picked up when I looked at it was that the coolant was blue and not pinky red. Its up for sale for £990

i bought my 150 cupra tdi it with 96k and now mines at 150k and im starting to get quite a few problems with it now, not sure if to spend the money to fix it up, or just keep driving it until something eventually goes or just get a new car.

yea ive always looked after my cars but sometimes things do eventually start to go.

had car remapped as soon as i bought it at 96k and now for the last few month the clutch is starting to slip when i boot it, so i am refraining from doing that but thats gonna cost close to a £1000 to fix im assuming

theres a constant front end knocking (drivers side i think) on my car which 5 different mechanics can not find where it is coming from and has had everyone puzzled. although ive been told my suspension is solid

my rear passenger door is not locking anymore when i alarm the car.

there is a very low whining sound between 1 and 2k revs which has just started happening (easiest way to describe the sound is a bit like a fainted whistle or a owl)

theres a constant rattle and vibration coming from the dashboard

and a few other minor cosmetics need attention

i am not mechanically minded so would have to pay someone to fix the problems.

don't really know if its worth spending all the money to get these fixed as These 150 cupras can be bought for about the £2 grand range now

Yeah I suppose that's the problem as the miles creap up well I hope u get it all sorted matey. The one I'm looking at is the 110bhp version

Ive seen a 90 hp Octavia with 315k on which had a cambelt snap - head off revealed no bore wear at all. If looked after 500,000 miles plus !
I also sold my remapped (220hp and 410lbft) 04 plate cupra tdi with 158k on it. That car just kept getting stronger and stronger wish I had kept it..

Unfortunately all the makes have one thing in common - they will all eventually start getting problems

Its just the VAG (or anything german for that matter) will last a bit longer than the others before the problems creep in, even if poorly maintained

German cars with high mileages shouldn't be discounted, you can get mile after mile of cheaper end motoring and trouble free but you have to appreciate luck comes into as well

Maintenance is key!

I had a taxi customer with tdi caravelle that had to have the cambelt changed twice a year due to mileage, I ended up fitting 6 belts to it!! Over 450k and going strong. Only on its 2nd clutch and flywheel too!
