Definitely a map would be fantastic for the vz3 333. Coming from a 380hp Skoda superb the cupra definitely lacks mid range. Also the superb had better fuel economy

If you had to choose, would you go for more power, or better fuel efficiency? 🤷

What matters more in your daily driving? Tell us in the comments!

If I was a bit of a rational person, fuel efficiency should have mattered the most in my usual 2x5km driving to and from office. And if I was a really rational person, I would have been working at home as I'm allowed to do that, or get an electric vehicle. But no, I'm mostly driven by emotions and impulses, and I love to drive my pure petrol car and I love to work in the office. Downside of all this is the rush hour traffic in which I got caught most of the times, both in the mornings and in the evenings. I measure the fuel consumption by each tank I've filled and I see numbers like 14 or 15 liters per 100 km . Yes, it's that bad, but I'm too old to care about such things, and no internal combustion engine to cope with such a horrible traffic in an efficient manner invented yet. Anyway, you might get the impression from the long story that I've been suffering from bad fuel economy but I'm not. I really don't care about it, not because I'm rich, just because I look at it as the price of being able to drive my old school petrol car.

As for more power, I wouldn't do any alteration on my Cupra Ateca 1.5 TSI as I love my cars factory-spec, but I would love to have a 2.0 TSI 300hp version of it, if only motor vehicle taxation on anything bigger than a 1.6 wasn't so wild in my country. For you to be able to imagine how wild, I'd say that you would be buying a second car for the government while you're buying one for yourself.

Cheers,
Serdar

Well the answer is both.

My modified motor has various maps that provide different power outputs and support for different fuel grades so in an ideal world I would want the same, click a button and go for great mpg, change to map 4 and you have a race track monster where low MPG is a point of pride.

Like @serdar_18fr I am not rich and am Old but I purchased and modified this car understanding fuel economy would not be the best.

In real world I get 40 mpg going long distance motorway and on the track the best I have had is 11/12 mpg and I run on 99 Ron. so my old cupra gives for my use all the stuff I need. I did look (could not afford) at the Big Audi's back in the day but they just give big power and 18mpg so they were a non running (both cost to buy and run).

Thanks for the response, Serder. Wholly understand your thoughts and feelings on fuel efficiency, we are glad though that you wouldn't change your CUPRA Ateca! What type of journeys do you do in it then, other than driving to and from work? 🙂

In winters, a couple of weekend trips to nearest snowy mountain, which is 170 km south from our city of Istanbul, to entertain my 17-old ski-loving son.

In summers, a lot of weekend trips as whole family (wife and 12-year old daughter included) to our summer resort, which is 100 km west of Istanbul. And also mostly week-long sea/sun/sand trips in our yearly paid vacations to Aegean or Mediterranean coasts of the country.

In between, there are a lot of places in Anatolia that we love to visit over and over again, in distances as long as 400-500 km one way. I never complain as I love to drive ☺️

This summer, hopefully in July or August, we'll also drive to Greece and this will be a first for us and I'm already excited 🥳

Cheers,
Serdar

Love my 300hp Ateca VZ2 (that I bought from Swansway) and one week later took it up to the Isle of Mull for a family holiday. I got an average of 35.6mpg, which was better than I expected over the 1200 miles in the fortnight, including the motorway trips at a steady 70mph each way plus some 'sprightly' driving beyond the motorways, and on the island. This was full-tank to full-tank, not the car's own fuel consumption info, which is way too optimistic!

But back home, it normally averages around 26-28mpg on mixed use, but around town it's low 20's even with a light right foot
When I bought it, I knew the car would be thirsty, but I wanted the excellent performance it gives, before the insurance starts rocketing in price due to my age (I'm now 70).
This coming Saturday, it'll be the Safety Car on track at Aintree, so it'll be interesting to see how that affects consumption!
If I had wanted economy, I'd have bought an economical car, but it's the performance that grabbed me when I decided to buy it.

I’ve just returned from a 2500 mile trip fo m Ireland to Austria and back. Vz3 333 Leon st. 28mpg for the whole trip. Fully loaded car and roof box, lots of 160kph on the autobahns and 2 laps round the ring.
However the consumption increased noticeably with the good German fuels. Shell vpower racing 100 and aral 102. I would say at least 5mpg better
