Anybody can get 40mpg sitting at 50mph. The OP said he was sitting at 70 and wanting better than 34.8

Sat at 70 mph yesterday and managed the dizzy heights of 37 mpg! Most of my driving is short B roads usually so I average around 24 mpg usually

I did a 145 mile run back after picking up my car with 18 miles on the clock. It was a mixture of mostly 50/70 roads, with a small bit of 30 & 40 zones too. Using Comfort mode I got an 37.9 MPG average. No idea what fuel was in the car (half a tank) but I popped 20 quid of Shell V-Power in. Cruise control not used either (I always find that helps).

When I had a Clio 197 on the filler cap there was a label saying 97 RON or better - I had read a lot of comments about people using regular petrol and getting far worse MPG. I've been a long time user of 'performance' fuels and always believed they have been worth the extra. For me slightly better MPG always made the cost difference very little.

I hadn't even realised the cupra wanted to use super unleaded until the salesman filled it and told me. I fill it with tesco momentum 99, it's the same price as shell etc charge for the regular stuff. Quite happy with the mpg on momentum.

Just drove home from bristol 300 miles, averaged 42mpg.. was doing between 70 and 90 most the way back up, not bad at all. Not fussed what I get driving around town.. just glad I can make my 300 commute on one tank haha

I drove from Southampton to Padstow and averaged 42mpg as well, the whole holiday driving through Cornwall evened out to 37mpg, very pleased with that

Not a coppera, but the best I've got from my 300 4D (18 plate) on a commute was 34 MPG. Eco warrior mode, 2/3 motorway at 70 & 1/3 A road at 50. Previous 280 ST was returning low 40s on the same journey.

Admittedly not at a SEAT dealer but the salesman who took me for the test drive in my 280 SC was most taken aback when I gave him a bollocking for putting 95 octane in it. I realise that they can't know every car they take in P-EX inside out but, judging by his reaction when I booted it, I don't think he had a clue what a Cupra is.

35 miles each way commute - motorway and a few junctions either end, deliberately tickling the throttle to see what I could get, 33.6 since refuel. Just ticked over 300 miles on the odo, so hopefully more economy when bedded in more.

That'll do me....... Only got a few more mpg in my old 184 dsg that coupled with diesel being more expensive.

Don’t buy a performance car and then wonder about Mpg, I’d actually be disappointed if my Cupra was giving me 40mpg, would mean I wasn’t driving it properly

It does get driven properly that's a 20 odd mile rush hour motorway journey.

Quite impressive economy on a long journey tbh.

I drove from Edinburgh to the national meet at Donington in my 290 with a passenger and luggage.

The 7 speed box does seem to help. Only used half a tank of momentum 99 for 300 miles!

The car was in individual mode with sport engine/normal DSG setting and with the air-con on. It was all motorway with cruise control but it's still impressive.

My previous 280 wouldn't have managed these figures!

Fuel economy compared to my Cupra 1p is amazing.
I can do 7,5l /100km without problems on long journey, when on my 1p it was really hard to do something under 10l.
In city, driving normally I can do 10l/100km
I think DSG7 seems to help with that.
