As above i've recently changed the DBM for a proflex or whatever it's called one and i'm still getting bounce when the wheels spin.

It's been wet today and the bounce nearly caused me to lose out to an Audi 2.0 Tdi.
I wasn't intending to set off from these lights quick but this A3 shot off like a rocket and as soon as I saw the TDI badge I thought i'm not having that. Only to end up with my CD track skipping and having to reach for 2nd.

So to the point, I thought a stiffer DBM would prevent this happening and just spin the wheels (which is alot more controllable) or is it a case of me me needing to be a better driver and softer on the right pedal in the wet?

Also what about the Traction control, and the EDL part in particular shouldn't they be helping?

PS: nailed the audi in the end, I feel so guilty for it though.

I think you answered your own question.
It's still to be expected in the wet. Driving style needs to be lighter.
Check your tyre thread depth for grip too.
Oh and it's the traction control causing it. Turn it off if you would prefer the wheels to spin.

No, Leeds but on a road very similar to the parkway. Lucky there was no one around.

I wish I hadn't been tempted could have so easily been a cop car behind me.

PS Flappy I'm very impressed with your Mini build thread.

The thing with the stiff DBM is that it transfers all the movement to the engine mounts as they are now the more plyable mount. I've got the full 034 Motorsport/ INA engineering engine/transmission/DBM set up but not had a chance to check for what you've experienced above.

But a lighter right foot with a more progressive feed of power will always be faster in the end even if you had a Quaife or Peloquin diff fitted. The diff only helps out when your cornering, in the wet there is little or no traction as it is so a diff can't help you there.
The best you can do in the wet is have the best tyres possible with progressive power feed.

is it beter to have traction control off in the wet when racing/driving hard then?

I tried it this morning and "xd-data-ii" was right. I turned the traction control off and induced a spin. No bounce.

In the future i'll be doing an standing starts with it off. While trying my best to use my right foot to stop the wheels spinning.

Certainly for road use if you have ESP i'd get it back on ASAP though. (unless you intend to be going sideways hehe)

Was the S3 the quatro?

Who said anything about an S3, It was an A3 Diesel all be it the 16v new one. :(
Anyway you're right though it could well have been a quatro but as I said I didn't set off fast it was only when I saw him speed off that I floored it.

Still after I past him at 6000 rpm bet the guy is looking up remap options as we speak lol.

agreed, when you're abt to race or drive hard(i.e. at lights), ESP should be off (prob for 1st and 2nd gear) which will stop the bounce you're experiencing, then obviously back on when you've moved up the gears (i.e. 3rd 4th) ... i did this last night last night with an MR2 turbo ... gave him a good lashing though.. but i gotta say, they are quick, he werent far behind lol ...

I've been gettint the bounce in mine it doesn't matter whether traction is on or off, or if it's wet or dry out it still bounces. Anyone have any ideas and yes I've try'd being lighter or the right pedal but still does it:confused:
