Wheels rubbing on arches. Help needed ASAP!

Hey guys. I need your help desperately.

I went and bought 18' inch alloys for my Ibiza MK4. I don't know the exact tyre side but I know they are 225 width.

They rub like crazy on bumps and when on full lock, and they are wearing my arches away servilely. What can I do to make them stop rubbing and fit properly?

It appears to be rubbing away my arches almost everywhere with the plastic arches damaged on both sides of the tyre, above, front and back. The back 2 arches are fine but I would imagine with people in the back it would be just as bad as the fronts.

Would a smaller, more low profile tyre fit and solve the problem? I really need your help and it would help me a lot. Thanks in advance.

George

You need to give is more info than this really?

What size wheels are they?
What is the tyre height?
Is the car lowered?
Has it been repaired on the front?
Is it using spacers?

As the back is the same with spacers I'm thinking they may be 18's which often rub.

You just need to adjust the profile of your tyres too match the bigger wheels, anyone whose fitted 18s on here should know the size.
when i fitted my 17s i had too swap from the fitted 225/45s too 205/40s .

Right. My tyres read: 225/40ZR18 92W

I take it they are way to big and that's why there rubbing.

Is there anyone with past experience with a MK4 with 18's? I could really use a guaranteed solution, since i don't want to buy tyres that wont fit and waste more money. Or just some more help! Anyone? Thanks!

205/35R18 isn't a tyre size that is going to be easy to find- if you can find it at all. You could possibly change to 215/35R18. These would be slightly thinner, smaller rolling diameter and they're the size that come on the new Vauxhall Corsa VXR so you can get usually find some tyres.

I don't know of anybody that's put 18s on; seems a bit extreme for a mk4.

The only guaranteed solution would be to sell the wheels and get some 16s or 17s.

Good luck!

To be honest in my 7 years of owning a seat ibiza (really sad I know), I can probably count on one hand the number of people with 18s.

If it was me I would buy some 17s and sell the bbs wheels. the car will drive much better and wont ever rub and whats more the tyres wont cost you a bomb every time. As you will need to get a very low profile to make them work.

Just to clarify my point wasnt that 18s dont fit but rather that the tyres are usual about £30 more per corner for them and aren't as readily stocked, with the exception of high torque models they make the car sluggish and in my opinion are just too big for the Mk4.

Its likely that the OP is going to have to buy 4 new tyres anyway and throw away perfectly good tyres in the process. My point is why not sell the 18s with good tyres on them?

Get a new set of 17s with tyres. The price difference will be very similar and more importantly wont have to worry about rubbing at all, paying more for tyres or even finding the tyres in the first place.

Just seems to take the problem away completely unless you are die hard for the 18s

The best solution for sure.
