Which oil is required for a top up?

I was driving my V2 with 4800 miles on the clock yesterday and had a dreaded warning come up on the the dash, this was a new one on me though. Low oil level plesae top up with a maximum of 1l, you may continue to drive. I have since checked the oil and found it to be near the bottom of the acceptable level. Personally I cannot remember the last time I had to but oil, normally this is just replaced as part of the service and there you go, but if it's low then it needs a top-up.

Here comes the hard part, what type/grade of oil is required?

The manual list about three different VW approved numbers, there is no sticker under the bonnet as mentioned on other threads and trying to input my reg into any car parts web sites tells me they don't have anything suitable.

I am at a loss, could someone please assist?

Hi Guys,
I know this is an old thread but this may help you guys, from what ETKA tells us, we go by this guide:

  • Spec VW 502 00 = 5W40 Oil
  • Spec VW 505 00 = 5W40 Oil
  • Spec VW 504 00 = 5W30 or 0W30 Oil
  • Spec VW 507 00 = 5W30 or 0W30 Oil
  • Spec VW 508 00 = 0W20 Oil
  • Spec VW 509 00 = 0W20 Oil
I topped up with Triple QX synplus 0w-20 VAG 508/509
£6:59 from Euro car parts.
Seems to be fine.

I have no association with these guys but if you're looking for help and wanting to buy oil etc at reasonable prices then I've found Opie Oils to be really good. Very helpful and often have big discounts or offers on (y) .

I’ve read this thread and I’m still non the wiser 😂

2.0 190 HP here - checks oil and itsAt the bottom level of dipstick (no warning yet though) so I want to get it topped up. It’s 9 months old with 4000miles on the clock.

From what I gather with Previous SEATs, cars come from the factory with ‘long life’ oil, even if they never go onto the long life servicing regime.
So based on that, I think I need VW 508 spec in 0w-20, would that be correct?
Mine is on the extended service schedule (2 years rather than 1) so I think VW 504 (5w-30) is not what is currently in the engine.

Hopefully someone can help shed some light!

Cheers

Do you have a label with oil details in the engine compartment as per the image?

@Fr2013 - When I’ve bought top up oil in the past I’ve bought it from the dealer and using the vehicle’s VIN and / or registration number, they can look up on their system for details of the correct oil for the vehicle.

Bought this today for our 1.5TSI
£12.99 for a litre from the local Euro Car Parts place.
Whatever you use for the 1.5 should be VW 508 compliant and 0W20.
