I've had my TSFI FR since March (absolutely love it) & I've been filling up with super unleaded (97 ron) or Shell VP (99 ron) is anyone using normal unleaded (95 ron) in their FR's & if so is there much difference in performance, is it worth the extra cost for super unleaded ?
 
Inside the filler flap it states 95 ron, but the performance figures in the handbook are based on 98 ron, I'm sure that I read in one of the earlier posts that the ECU learns your driving pattern & quality of fuel used.
 
All FSI engines turbo or not have to run on superunleaded for the stratification process to work properly which means more expense i use v power at £1 per litre now but well worth it for the smile i get driving the car !!
 
Yes, super unleaded is recommend, overwise the engine has to pull pack timing slightly to prevent knock. This inturn reduces performance.
 
Maverick, I have a TFSI FR and it says 98 ron on the fuel flap, I tried both Asda and Shell unleaded and noticed a difference.

It's either Esso or Shell around here and I think the Shell VP is a little better.
 
I have a TFSI FR with 2500 miles on it, all but one fill has been on normal (95RON) unleaded, to be honest I don't think 98 Ron makes that much difference (expecting to get flamed for that) also with 200ish bhp to play with:funk: , I dont think that loosing a few is an issue (I will definatly get flamed for that).

I heard u lose about 10% of your perfomance if you use the 95ron over 98ron

Chuckie maybe a few fills of the tank with VPower and you'll be able to tell a bit of a difference. Iv had my TFSI FR since March and iv only used VPower. Dont see much of a point in spending £16k on a sporty car then skimping a few quid a week by using supermarket fuels.

Not that il be keeping the car forever, but if supermarket fuel is regularly used in a car thats reccommended a higher octane petrol, does this shorten the life of the engine or are there bound to be any faults related to this?
 
That unfortunate, here in KSA we only have the 95 fuel, but the upside it's cheap, around £0.08 / liter
 
I've been told that long term fast running of 95ron fuel can cause valve burn out in certain vag engines, so have always used either V-power/bp ultimate, V-power seems the best for performance, but due to the lack of Shell garages within a 5 mile radius, it means a trip to Nottingham to fill up, not a problem really....
 
I might be missing something here, but if VW can't make an engine that will run on 95 and 98ron by now then maybe they should stop making cars :p

And yes I know its a hot hatch etc but at the end of the day its only 200bhp which means its not even that stressed.

Also around these parts the nearest Garage with VPower is 7 miles away and it costs £1.07/litre. i know..............................you shouldn't by the car if you can't aford the fuel etc.
 
Inside my filler cap it says 95Ron or 98Ron. I asked the dealer when i picked the car up and they told me they only ever use 95Ron:confused:

So i usually use 95Ron except when i pass a BP station then fill up with Ultra. Yes, i do notice a very slight improvement in performance and the smoothness of the engine, but not a great deal, i would imagine that if i always ran it on Ultra i would notice more of a difference.
