ok, if you turn hard left whilest moving at a slow speed theres a whine, could be coming from drivers side. but if you do it from a stand still nothing happens, ive looked and cant spot nothing and as ive only had it a month im frustrated at this problem.

thats the main one, but tghe other thing when the car is started from really cold if the aircon is on at start up the car judders for a couple of minutes on and off. is this normal.

thanks guys

With the aircon thing and it juddering i'd say it is normal, my car does it and i'm pretty sure its down to alot of things running on start up to keep the car idling like the secondary air pump. The choke is on full so its keeping the engine going till it warms up so any extra strain put on the engine like the aircon will cause it judder a bit till it settles itself.

Have you tried turning right on full lock? does it do it as well? The other thing i would say is not to hold it on full lock for too long as the power steering fluid gets very hot and i'm not sure if its something like a maximum of 13 secs on full lock before you should straighten the wheel as the whole system gets pretty hot.
I could be completely wrong lol but i'm sure that i heard that somewhere so if i'm wrong then someone feel free to put me straight.

it does it if you have turn to a shard left turn at low speeds, i.e shopping centres. ive heard if the power steering works not to worry , just a new car and dont like new noises.lol

lanceneoman ... check the power steering fluid ( 99%) its the power steering fluid ... it happened to me

i have exactly the same issue. cant be normal cause a month ago car was not making noise now it is. in at dealer tomorrow so will ask... watch this space.

yeah i know what it is.i have this issue.

my mate had it on his bmw,he heard the whining noise too...just before his power steering pump burst.
so its the power steering pump that you need to check, its on its way out.

Mine has been doing this for the past 10 months and not got any worse. I had it check by dealer and was told it is showing signs of wear but got a long way to go before it fails.

This sounds similar to what I have, only turning left on pretty much full lock at slow speeds, sort of a whiney rubbing sound - let us know if you find anything out mate.

Think the only thing you can do now is remember how the noise sounds and keep an ear open for any changes in sound and if it gets louder or starts grinding or something then you know that its not normal and then get it checked out again.

I've got the same problem, fluid is above minimum but I'm gona top it up and hope for the best. Any ideas how much a new pump will cost?
