Hey people,

had a wee look on the search but all i could find was things for the leon 1.6 sx, so not sure if it will be the same.

Basically everytime i am in second gear i have a whislting sound coming from my car, no sure if its coming from engine or gearbox.

As i work my way up the rev range it seems to get louder, does really sound as if i have a turbo fitted:D but not in a 1.4 16v:lol:.

If anyone can give me any hints on what could be causing this, i thought it may have been something stuck in the air intake, but not too sure.

Ross

I'm not being silly but....................is the whistle noise coming from the stereo speekers?

does the noise go if you stick it in neutrel whilst going along? if it does maybe you have a noisy altinator bearing, noisy water pump or a noisy cam belt tensioner

if it doesn't maybe you have a noisy wheel bearing or a sticky brake caliper

nah its not coming from the speakers,

ehm not sure about going into neutral as i hate to coast lol, but i know that when i dip the clutch for a few seconds eg to change gear, then the noise goes away.

it only comes whn i accelerate in second

It sounds like a similar noise I get in my cupra, but mines in 4th gear at 30mph (about 1750 revs), just touching on accelerator.

Is it a little whurring noise? Mine goes when i accelerate or if i dip the clutch, or if the revs drop down. I think it can be heard in 5th too but very faint.

Just had new gearbox fitted as they suspected it was gearbox bearings, but its still there! So back to square one in the new year. Could it be a natural resonance?

just spoke to a local mechanic about it and he reckons that it will be a belt that is loose, but could not have a look as he was just finishing up, will take it down again so he can have a proper look at it

you will get a little gearbox whooo noise at low revs in high gears well i always have inmy cupra and in alot of other cars ive driven but shouldnt do it in 1 gear hard too diagnose over a computer tho!
