i am very interested in how much everyone is paying as ive had some very shocking quotes
im picking up my brand new leon fr tsfi dsg on sat i got full comp for £279.80
with c,car and only £175 excess from hastings direct did a search on confused.com and phoned to check cover was up to spec.
my fiesta 125 zetec cost £210 full comp so iwas well impressed.
my impreza cost £750 with £1000 excess
im 36 wifes 35 both with clean licenses
worst quote £580
so i just wondered what your all paying

Re your insurance quote. I am not really able to help because mine is a little complicated (Currently trying to build up my own no claims having been named driver on wifes policy for years)

Admittedly we are both "somewhat" older than you and your good wife but the initial indications are that the quote you have got is very similar. This includes fully comp, no claims protection, hire car etc..

Try Direct Line Insurance. Have been with them for years and have been well impressed with their service (including their handling of a claim) You also get additional discount for more than 1 car being insured in the same houshold.

It may be that I am an old git but it may be worth a try.

My main question is (Please!!!!!!!!!!) What made you go for the TFSI DSG

I would suggest using confused.com or the like and getting a quote from the best 5 or so from their websites. That way you can see who will offer reasonable quotes (Unlike some companies that offered me over 1K), or the best quotes and then avoid the middle man charges and save over the confused prices.

To be honest I don't trust confused.com

I found my policy that way initially 2 years ago, but had to ring them up and the price went up slightly.

Last year my company refused to quote on confused.com but sent me a renewal way cheaper than any of their prices.

Before ordering my Cupra I ran a quote on confused.com the few companies that would cover me were expensive but looking on direct line (who aren't on confused) they were miles cheaper.

Personally I would use confused and the comparison sites, but take it with a pinch of salt and use a few direct ones as well. Direct Line are worth a shot and any others you have had good quotes from in the past.

Confused.com doesn't seem to like the fact that I need business use and my girlfriend has had 2 cliams (one none fault) in the past 3 years. I also had a claim for a passenger window due to theft which some companies don't like.

Dude that isn't much When i was going to get a Cupra the cheapest quote i got was £3-4k But then i am only 19 with 1 accident and No NCB. Quite upsetting when you can afford the car but not the insurance. Not so bad though as i still have the FR TDi

we had a 24 hour test drive wanted a fr tdi but they only had the tsfi with dsg so took it to dorset normal driving couple of speedy moments managed to get 37 mpg 400 miles in total only one refuel on return to garage of 42 pound so impresed the ease of auto with lightening gear change got it for 16200 brand new. have had a suby sti for four years with 17 to a gallon 1000 pound insurance. so this is why fr tsfi dsg. also wife loves the leon fr.

Mines is £380 for a Leon Ref Sport with BTCC kit. I have 4 yrs NCB, no accidents or endorsements. Not too bad..guess being 30 does have its benefits.

Had the FR TDi for half a day. Nice car but did not give me that "I must have" feeling I had when I first drove my Leon 150 TDi PD Cupra 3 years ago. In fact one of the salesmen said "You will like this car" When asked why he said, "You know how you get thrown back in your seat when you accellerate hard in your 150. Well its much smoother in this car" Unfortunately he was right. I also found the ride a little hard too. (I may not be as young as I used to be but I do like a bit of fun now and then!)

I next wanted to test drive the deisel DSG but the only one I could take out "alone" was like you. The TFSI DSG!!!!!. Like you, I was impressed. I know if I go for it I will lose on car tax and mpg but your 37mpg quoted is good (Over 3 years I have averaged approx 45mpg in my Deisel Cupra). I do not do a lot of miles per year so I think the move to petrol (To maintain that occassional "fun" feeling) will be worth it.

Never thought I would ever consider driving an automatic car but, there again, 3 years ago I never thought I would ever drive a deisel car. Appreciate your input.

Currently have finance in place and a decision to make. WHICH WILL BE TOMORROW!!!

I will let you know about my insurance once the decision has been made!

Did you try Direct Line! I do not know your age or your no claims but just lets say a bull on a dart board would not be far off mine! We currently have 3 cars in the family insured with them and because of this my youngest (20yrs) has just saved over £400! More than one car in the family insured with them earns extra discount! I have just done an imaginary run if I owned a 07 Plate Cupra (Almost but not quite. Bought a TFSI FR DSG (TODAY!)

Fully Comp, Protected No Claims, Hire Car, Legal Protection, = £322

Fully Comp, Hire Car, Legal Protection = £304.50

Fully Comp and Legal Protection only = £257.25

RPMLEON, in my opinion, keep the Cupra 150 TDi. Mine has just gone back (company car) after 3 and a half years of bliss. Now I have a 2.0TDi stylance. OK its not a direct comparison, but its not half the car the MK1 Cupra was. When you start looking close, the MK2 seems really, well, cheap. There are so many small details that on their own arent too bad, but they soon all add up. eg, It doesn't look as good, no gas strut on bonnet, not drivers grap handle, the others arent damped very well, no locking glove box, no bloomin passenger air bag disable (a free(?) option that no one felt fit to mention!) and the most unforgiveable thing, its noiser!!! I could go on.. Had a go in an FR TDi and have to say it just didnt seem that special enough to warrant the £800 our lease company wanted to allow me to upgrade to it. I'd be interested into knowing what other people think of the MK2 compared to the MK1.

Bit late in the evening but just to let you know To late!!!!!!! Did the deal today!! Long story, but finally went for the 2.0 TFSI FR DSG. Hope to pick up the new wheels with the 18" wheels + Bluetooth sometime next week. If you are interested I will give you my reasons in more detail at a later date.

Hi Andy and rpmleon.

Have ordered a new 2.0TDi DSG Stylance with a lot of extras and hence its having to go through the factory production line. Delivery is expected in a few weeks time and its replacing my 2.7 turbo Audi Quattro.

My high performance car days are way in the past as I've been receiving a pension for a long time. However, to the point of this post: I live just about three miles from Shefford - in Upper Stondon.

I'm slightly disappointed to read the critical comments about the quality of the 2.0TDi Stylance.
