Why does the VXR sound so angry and mk LCR so quiet and boring?

I apologise before anyone moans at me as im sure this has been covered like a million times. But, after looking at my friends 55 plate VXR (and listening to his new cat back) today has left me green with envy

How does this car sound so good with just a cat back?. I had a drive in the car when he first bought it (pre cat back) and i hated it as somehow i have always had a subconcious hate for Vauxhalls, but the car certainly didnt feel that fast. The steering as light and the whole car just felt soft and sloppy. Oh and the brakes are horrendous.

Now, he shows me the cat back today and on idle it has a weird off kilter burble, and was getting pops and bangs just from this mod alone. It cost him a shade over £200. He reckons he can get a whole system for £550. A full system on a mk1 LCR is around £1000 minimum, and from all the meets and videos on YouTube the LCR will never ever sound as good as these VXRs. I must stress he doesnt want a de-cat too. If he wanted a de-cat im sure you will hear him from 10 miles away.......

The VXR and LCR on stage 2 both make 300 thereabouts, so my question is why is the LCR so quiet? Is it the 20v engine? Or is the ECU a bit too clever and boring at the same time?

Im a little peeved he is getting a much better sound for half the price...cheers

It's down to stuff like the manifold, exhaust port shape, right through to the exhaust boxes etc.

Yeah the standard map and everything mentioned by Dan1720v as standard create this sound and pops. There two completely different setup cars. Annoying!! Lol

I not think you'll get that sound from lcr with a cat or boxes. I've just ordered straight through cobra no cat no baffles non res. hoping it will sound on the same lines as a vxr

The Astra vxr sounds amazing with a catback. My old one had a full turbo back system and it was one of the best sounding cars I've had.

the white vxr's sound awesome from factory,

think they come with a remus exhaust...........plenty of pop's and bangs

my favorite sounding car was my tubo'd ep3.........with screamer pipe off of the turbo..........sounded awesome in vtec and on boost!

my Lc Fr tdi sounds boring as feck in comparision lol!

VXR with a Remus do sound the tits I won't lie... does sound very nice.

My Piper cat-back with Milltek decat and 3" downpipe burbles, pops and is pretty loud.

the white nurunburg astra vxr's have a different exhaust than the usual astra vxr's from factory..............

but yeah from factory they sound $hite apart from the white nurumburgs

a de-cat exhaust soon solves that problem though

Tuned VXRs sound nuts. I went for a ride in a Thorney Motorsports VXR-R running race fuel and it was a monster and had a sound to match. Saying this my LCR sounds crazy enough. I keep getting flagged down to be asked what I am running and what exhaust it is

You can get a full Cobra system for £595.00 and it sounds awesome.

that cobra exhaust sounds not alot different from my milltek with de cat, if anything not as loud. get a pop here and there with mine. my mates got a 340bhp focus st that sounds immense, so jealous of the noise it makes, but given up trying to replicate it
