Just recently had some FK Highsports and fitted them to my Mk3 cupra, and theyre sweet, but recently lowered the car onto 17's and a week later on road to work, a T**T in an X Type overtaking 3 cars on a hill came head to head with me on a blind hill, i was doing around 50mph, he was doing well in excess of 80mph and it was either hit eachother head on at a combined 130mph or run off the road into a small grass verge, unfortunately, the grass verge wasn't as welcoming to my shiney Cupra, gearbox hit the kerb and dumped its oil over the road, smashed main diff gear out of the bottom of the box and locked all drive up to the front wheels, then i continued into a rather large steep ditch!!This happened at 6.20am on wednesday, after 5 tow/recovery vehicles turning up to recover me, all went away to no avail as it was either too low to get on the ramps, too low profile tyres to put on a suspended tow or they just couldn't be arsed as it was lashing it down with rain, in the end, a very good recovery company localish to me (Frankerbrook Garage Breakdown Recovery) sent a chap out with a flat bed and literally dragged my car out the ditch with a winch and just dragged it onto his lorry (A lot of jamming up, shearing and snapping noises were occuring at this point and im wincing at the side of the road) :-( After that ive got it to my local seat garage at 5pm, (10 and a half hours later)!!!!!!! anyway, the cars unscaithed bodywork, wheels, suspension, but the gearbox and diff is wrecked and i think it may need a new clutch aswell, i have no money, no car and an exspensive holiday in may!!! As i stated WHY 'O' WHY does things always happen at the worse times!! I tell you what aswell, its a bit scary going into a ditch in a cupra thats as low and stiff as owt at 50/60mph!!! LOL Any idea on costs for this repair as Seat havent got back to me yet and i wanna prepare myself for the worse!! Cheers

If at the dealers, expensive! I picked up a 2nd hand box (20k) and that was £500. All in all box clutch and labopur came to about £1000. Your looking at the best part of a grand just for a box I would imagine..

I'd start having a look on ebay for replacements etc, and may aswell upgrade as you go along.
I remember bill mentioning a different gearbox, OJ2, or something like that, which has a closer ratio.

I'm not suggesting quaife stuff, just general upgrade. If needed.

I feel for you mate though, i bet thats gutting.

As carl said, what happened with the Jag guy? Did he stop?

Hope its not expensive mate, is it getting done through insurance, or are you going to pay yourself?

off topic a sec too but lol daz ive found the kid that came up to you in the petrol station the other day thinking your car was mine lol! He works as a yard boy in the carshop megastore (uplands have a branch inside the shop, where i am now), they call him pidgeon as you may of noticed he walks like one and isnt the sharpest tool in the box lol :)

sorry to hear that mate, that is the sort of stuff anyone can do without... the jag could well off been nicked you never know!! hope it all works out ok though mate.

sorry to hear about your car mate , i had a similiar situation in my previous car luckily it just badly damaged my wheel and knocked the tracking out funily enough they didnt stop either

Yeah cheers all, paying for it myself, and having a saxo VTR with no end of gearbox problems, opted to take it to main dealer to ensure it right, paying for it myself as you can imagine what a 21 year olds insurance would be like on that with a claim!! Not even worth thinking about!! Heard one bit of good news though, Seat have spoken to the RAC who i apparently have a warentee with (Showed up on there system against my car registration) :) and theyve said that they will pay the first £1000+Vat and cover £36 of every hours labour on the bill,so things could be looking up!! Jag could have been nicked, i thought that myself but he didn't stop!!! yeah gonna put an uprated sports clutch in it hopefully!! Any suggestions and price if possible anybody???? Gonna keep the box standard as its a pretty solid unit by the sounds of it and im not planning on putting anymore than maybe 200-220bhp through it so should be Ok, gotta keep costs down!!!

Getting the car back on thursday/friday as promised by seat so monday should be a good expected day!! Warrenties covering it due to some good haggling from SEAT with the RAC for me!! just gotta save to get it chipped and a different exhaust as mine isn't loud enough for my liking!! Maybe have a Jetex full stainless steel exhaust system for sale in the next month or 2, been on about 6/8 months, 2.5" pipe from CAT back, twin 2.5" round tailpipes, Anyone interested drop me a line with an offer!!!!!
