IBIZA Mk3 1.0Ltr MPi
Hi all. I didnt know whether to post this in Problem Issues Q&A or SEAT Model Specific Discussion Area so please forgive me I decided to put it in both.

Anways, I gets into my Ibiza MK3 Year 2000 1.0ltr today and decides I want to put the rear screen wiper on. Presses the button on the steering column stalk switch and the wiper didnt work but the fog lamp on the dashboard flickered. - Then I decided to put the rear Fog Lamps on and the front windscreen wipers came on!!!! - I swear I was sober at the time and not drunk like these fella's:

What the freakin' hell is going on with my car, its still like that this evening - anyone got any Ideas please where to look for the problem?

cheers,

Andy.

:roflmao: bet you thought you were going mad!

not really sure what that could be. i'm guessing all those controls run into a control module rather than being hardwired because it would be impossible for wires to swap themselves over. so maybe try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect it to reset everything?

i'm not saying it will fix it but if it were me i would give it a try

Success!! - Today I took the trim off the inside of the rear tailgate (that covers the rear wiper motor and lock) wiggled around a brown electrical connector and bingo! - everything worked as it should.

So it looks as though that connector needs replacing or its losing connection somewhere then.

Thanks all.

Andy.

I am really glad I found the problem myself - imagine how much these days it would cost a garage to find a loose wire, got to be at least 150 quid now!! ;)

What weird logics though of wiring up a car why should a loose electrical connection in the tailgate cause the front windscreen wipers to operate when the rear fog lamps are turned on!! - its a strange world we live in

the loose brown wire will be an earth, can cause all sorts of strange probs!!
make sure it has a good clean connection to the metal body of the car.

yes it is amazing how funny electrics can go just because of an earth. i'm in my 3rd year of my electronic engineering degree and the number of times i've had MASSIVE problems and found the cause to be one loose wire! its crazy!

ah well at least its sorted!

can anybody point me in the direction of this exact earth as i have this problem and im not really wanting a big garage bill for something that could be this simple. cheers
