Sometimes my LC feels like it is being strangled and can't get enough air. Putting my foot down causes it to stutter and black smoke to come from the exhaust. It happens most in 6th gear and comes on without warning. At most other times the car is fine if a little snappy on the throttle.

So-far I have;
  • replaced the coil packs cos at least one of these was causing the car to intermittently run on 3-cylinders,
  • put a green temp sensor on because the old one had stopped working (no dash display),
  • put a new MAF on,
  • put a new DV on.

Only thing I haven't changed is the N75 (trying to source one) and the car has de-cat pipe which I am going to change back for standard (de-cat pipe anyone?) when there isn't a danger of the cat being killed by the occasional back fire that I also have experienced. I have checked for split hoses and loose joints and haven't found anything.

With all the above logged there is likely to be a mass of error codes. If these are cleared is it likely to make my car run better or not? Will a weeks driving be enough to log new codes that might pin-point the problem?

My car is standard other than the de-cat pipe mentioned above and has the early APP engine. Any thoughts on what might be causing my problem? Thanks.

The de-cat was on the car when I bought it and I have since sourced a second hand cat to replace it. The de-cat looks like the original pipe work with a straight section welded in its place. I don't know about ECU work but doubt this was done.

I have seen that GSF do lamda probes for £20. Are these universal so will they fit the Leon cat and does anyone konw if they are any good?

you will need a vag specific one to fit your car (to suit the wiring) this is if it is your lamda mind you

what error codes are you getting?

also, it wont make a difference fitting a new lamda with the decat still on
