Winter wheels - will 15" leon alloys fit on FR tdi??

Guys

I've bought some 15" leon alloys from a 2002 110se. I've done some research and found these leons came with 280mm front brakes.

The question, will these wheels clear 288mm brakes on my FR?

I've looked at some pics and they look awfully tight even on 280mms.

Planning on putting some winter tyres on them but need to know if they'll clear.

P.S. MK4 golfs 130pd have 15" wheels with 28mm brakes but not sure if the inside of the wheel is the same.

Any advice would be great!

Don't know about the fit but with 15" will it not be to low for snow ?
I have the same car and was thinking of 205/55/16 with winters.
Mine is like a snow plough as it is with 17"

You need to get the correct size tyres so you have the same rolling radius!

Std 225/45/17 is near enough the same as 205/55/16 with only a 2mm difference so there will be no change in ride height at all.

On 15s you would go 195/65/15 and on a winter tyre would make excellent size as its narrow and would still have a rolling radius of 634mm which is what 225/45/17 gives.

Edit, whether a 15" will fit on the front or not i do not know. I was looking to get some 16s as 205/55/16 is common as muck and should be a cheap tyre option.

Interested in the answer to this as I have a set of 15" golf steels sitting up the farm doing nothing

Surely you are the perfect person to nip up there then in the freezing cold and whip a front wheel off and tell the rest of us? :p

Suddenly had a thought and i think classic impreza wheels will fit, the stud pattern is correct at 5x100 and the offset if roughly et42 so that should be ok and i know they clear impreza 295 brakes (well in one way) so should be ok on the cupra. Mine are in aberdeen though and i am south of glasgow, need to get them back off my mate and check.

195/65/15 winter tyres are pretty cheap on ebay too.

Maybe my problem solved, we shall see!

They should fit fine, I think my 96 golf vr6 had 288mm fron discs and came with 15's as standard
you need 16's to clear 312mm discs as fitted to the LC

15" steel wheel may not necessary be the same size internally as 15" alloys... that's what i'm thinking.

Likewise 15" mk4 golf gttdi alloys may be slighty bigger that leon 15" se alloys inside.

I was looking at a picture of 15" leon alloys over 280mm brakes and i couldnt see 4mm between the inside of the wheel and the calliper.

Think i might just look about for some golf for leon 130pd 16" wheels just to be safe.

This snow is a mightmere. Our lives arn't designed around it. I'v currently got TR-1s fitted with not much treat and i can't get traction anywhere. Def not going to be in this position again next year!

Yep, same as mine mate.

I think i'm justing going to struggle through this year as the price of winter tyres at the mo is crazy.

In summer, i'll be certainly sorting out some spare wheels with snow tyres on.

They are winter tyres we are talking about though, not specific snow tyres :p

Winter tyres are proven to perform much better than a summer tyre in anything below 7 degrees, its not just snow, its the cold ground and the slushy stuff.

I plan to do the same for next winter cause in scotland it is defo below 7 degrees for most of the time nevermind just winter

some may say lala land....
got me thinking, that my standard spare in boot i may be shafted as upgraded mine from 288 to 312 & also the rears to 256.
do we know of if this will fit over them? sorry do not know size of standard spare.

scarily thought that next year will just purchase an A4 quattro for general ease!

oldman , you could always gift me your spare , i will only need to seek another two then ,,,, :)

this is what im doing , after new year , searching the scrappies ,

any ideas what is the biggest profile 16" i could achieve on my TDI thats been lowered ,

try and raise it back up abit for winter

not bothered about speedo being out , just have to clock the sat nav and see difference

edit , just thought mrs is upgrading here mk5 golf alloys ,after new year , but not sure if the mk5 platform would fit or not ? i dont think it would
