Ever since I've had my ibiza mk4 (2002-2008). The rear wiper motor has had various issues. I've gone through 3 used ones so far. The current one's motor is just about dead, so it's time for another replacement.

I'm curious if the wiper motor from a mk5 would fit, as the part number is very similar (and they look identical).

mk4 part number: 6L6955711
mk5 part number: 6J3955711

Any thoughts on compatibility folks ?

Have you got these numbers from an up to date VAG e-cat? If so, I'd hope that if the later variant did fit, it would be listed as the current replacement part.

One thing to consider, exactly what part needs replacing? Reason for that question is, if they are almost identical, it could be just the shafts and tubes that are different - this tends to be what made, in the past, the Fabia/Polo/Ibiza all different - I know this as the Fabias were thought to use an earlier Golf assembly, so like someone on the briskoda site I had a problem with the spraying function, so I copied what the Skoda guy did (he bought a rear wiper repair kit) to sort my wife's 9N Polo - bad choice - shafts all too short, I needed to go and buy the proper repair kit for a 9N Polo.

Are you sure that you have been fixing the failed part or just replacing a part that gets it going again, ie did you use the greases and new seals on the shafts and tubes?

Edit:- and is the wiring still sound?

Another Edit:- the repair kits consist of two different greases, gaskets, screw(s), new shaft, new tube/base, O-rings, new spray head.

The issues previously were that the skoosher (for want of a better word) kept moving with the wiper, rather than holding it's position..

Latest issues is that over time the motor just has no life, so the wiper doesn't move at all. Some days it will move for a while then it'll stop working again for a day or two.

Reason I asked about the mk5 is because atleast it'll be a bit newer and less likely to die on me as a second hard part.. opposed to ending up possibly getting an ancient mk4 wiper motor second hand.

The numbers came from my existing dead wiper(s), the mk5 number came from ebay.

Admittedly this time around it could be an issue other than the wiper motor (and components) itself, but I haven't had time to get the boot cover off and check the connection..

I was just curious if anyone knew if the parts were the same.

Thanks for the reply RUM4MO

Maybe have a look at the latest posting on an old thread covering this problem, it could be the leaking spray tube that is causing the motor grief. If you can get hold of a repair kit from Seat then I'd reckon that you will be able to effect a long term repair.

Edit:- "skoosher" probably does not work much further South that where I am!!

So now that the hullaballooo of xmas and new year has passed, I guess I'll give this a bump and simplify the question.

Has anyone tried to fit a rear wiper motor from an Ibiza Mk5 onto a Mk4 ?

If you did, was it a straight swap ?
