Hi, everyone,

I recently bought a 74 plate (registered December 2024) Ateca FR from a SEAT Marshall dealer. The listing shows the following:

wired and wireless full link smartphone integration

I just tried to connect my iPhone, however, and it doesn't work. It's clearly set to be a wired-only setup. I've had a couple of cars with wireless, so I'm familiar with the setup. I called the dealer, telling them they sold me a car that's missing a feature that was advertised. Within the same branch, I spoke to 4 different people who had different opinions:
  • One said it definitively doesn't have wireless because it "doesn't have the antenna"
  • One said it will do, as "it's standard on the FR"
  • The others weren't sure, and even with my registration and VIN they couldn't give me a definitive answer
  • One mentioned seeing MIB3 as well as 9WT (when I asked him to please check the codes)
I'm wondering if this is maybe a software issue. Here's what I see in System Information:

Device part number: 575035816
Hardware: H31
Software: 0442
Media Codec: 2516a208c7c3d54ed8991b820f4671119a5ad1ce
Radio database: 1.31.44

And under Version Information I see:

Release version:
MOI3GP_EUSEMQB_P4420J
Software version:
0442

I've spoken to four different SEAT dealers about this now, and nobody can definitely tell me if a 74 plate Ateca FR has wireless CarPlay.

Can anyone help me make sense of this? If it really doesn't, I'll return the car. I've made that clear to them. I'm just wondering if the software needs updating, as I heard 0442 is woefully outdated, but I can't confirm that myself.

Thanks!

As you have made it clear to the selling garage, I would take it back to them and get them to make it work or they can keep the motor.

Thanks. Yeah, I agree. They said I could bring it back and let them "try" an update, but that it could take 16+ hours and that they don't know if it'll work. It's a 2h 30m drive from me, so that's no good. They also offered to send a third-party company to pick it up and take it back (300-mile round trip) so that they can try, but I personally don't love the idea of that. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I'm not feeling great about either of these options, and I just can't understand how they don't know if it does or doesn't support it.

I understand the issue, I have certainly had experience of Audi Dealers selling motors and having no idea how to change the settings on the car, they have to call out the master tech guy (and even he did not fully understand it) so I am afraid its not a surprise. Personally I would let them use a third party, just make sure you take lots of pictures before the car goes in case of any damage.

Hi,

My 2025 Cupra Ateca has Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto.
In its build info, it has PR code "9WJ-Wired & Wireless App-Connect".
Send me your VIN via a private message and I'll look up what its build info shows.

Regards,
Serdar

Thanks for the reply. I don't have the VIN with me at the moment (working away today).

When looking at codes, someone at the dealer said he couldn't find anything "when searching for wireless". I asked him to see if "9WJ" appeared, and he then said he can just see "9WT" (confirming that was wired). He also said he could confirm MIB3. That was about the best I could get from any of them unfortunately. If it indeed does only have 9WT, does that mean it can't get wireless, even with an update? Thanks.

I'd say it doesn't necessarily mean that the hardware is not capable of wireless.
But it does mean that the infotainment unit doesn't have the required license installed on it at the factory.
It is *most likely* possible to activate the wireless by installing it via unofficial ways and doing some coding on the unit.

It's not a matter of trial and error.
I don't know what kind of an update they're talking about but no update can activate a function which is not there.

If it's a "baseline update" which actually takes long time really (but not 16 hours?), a new version (if exists) would be installed but that's irrelevant, and also the unit would be returned to its factory state in terms of coding, adaptations and licenses, which might fix a problem, only if a previous owner had played with it and broken things. But again, that wouldn't activate a function for which the unit does not have a license (a "FeC" actually)

Yeah, I questioned that as well. I would've thought a couple of hours at most, but I'm just guessing there.

Yeah, I agree it's not a matter of trial and error. Even marketing documents from older versions of the Ateca FR mention it having wireless, so it's looking more and more likely that it's a licensing issue. If that was the case, I would've expected them to come to that conclusion themselves when I first called. It was never even mentioned. If that is the case, and H31 with software 0442 is actually correct, I'd hope they could address this really quickly.

There's an information submenu on the unit which shows supported feature codes (FeC) and actually installed ones, like the one in the screenshot below.
Look for the installed ones and their validity status, take note of them, share here and let me compare with mine.

A long press on the circular menu button on the lower left should take you to that menu, if I remember correctly.

Regarding the installed ones, my Ateca (wireless enabled in factory) does not have more feature codes than yours.
So, I believe activating wireless is just a matter of coding.
Being a 2024, your car shouldn't be affected by SFD2 and that's good news.
I didn't actually do this exact change before, but I remember that I've read somewhere that it should be as easy as changing a couple of long coding and/or adaptation entries in infotainment unit using a capable diagnostics device, like OBD11 or similar. (if the hardware supports it of course)

By the way, here are the descriptions of those codes for a MIB3 unit.

  • 00070b00 Android Auto MIB3OI
  • 00070a00 Apple CarPlay MIB3OI
  • 00070500 SDS MIB3 OI
  • 00040100 Navigation
  • 00071c00 Predictive Route Data
  • 00060400 Performance Monitor

  • 00000700 Green Engineering Menu
  • 00060100 Vehicle Interface
  • 00060300 MirrorLink/AppConnect
  • 00070400 Electronic Voice Amplifier
  • 00070600 Rear Entertainment System
  • 00070900 WLAN Hotspot
  • 00070c00 Baidu CarLife

By the way, there's of course the matter of incorrect advertising.
One might rightfully want to give the car back.
