Cheers Adam, I really appreciate the time you've taken over this, and I reckon that would make a great addition to the guide on Icecavern, which can be a little vague.

find a fuse that is 0V when the ignition is off and when the ignition is on goes to 12v.
i put a small spade connector in the end of the fuse and taped it in there so it would not move. from here i then wired it to where the power cable was.

What's the alternative to doing this? To me that sounds pretty complicated, and I'm sure there must be a simpler way of getting a remote wire. If I were to do it the proper way, do you know how I'd get an RCA/remote connection without losing the air con?

I got right up to the stage where I was ready to feed the wire to the amp, having connected the power and the RCA lead, but my main concerns are still these:

Firstly, I'm not sure what to do about the remote/RCA cables as the mini ISO/RCA adaptor that I have will only go into the HU if I take something else out, and I think that something else is the air con, which I don't want to sacrifice.

Secondly, the remote wire that came with my amp wiring kit has a really strange end to it, which won't connect to the remote part of the RCA adaptor, or anything else for that matter. Either it's broken, or wrong.

Also, when you did it, how did you connect the RCA leads? As you don't seem to mention routing them at the same time as the remote/power.

Thanks for your offer of help, but I live right up north in Cheshire, so I think it's a bit far for you to come. I'm really determined to do this myself, and I think bar the problems I've mentioned, it's not beyond me.

If anyone can explain this RCA business I'd be greatly indebted to you.

ok, what Amp do you have? (if you mentioned it already i didnt read that part)

First off, when working with your amp/speakers/wireing REMOVE the in-line fuse from your Positive line. Stops any rouge electricity and sparks ect...(saves you a shitload of 40A fuses aswell haha)

The wire from the battery runs along the passenger side of the car, take off the plastic trim around the door and run the wire along there, under the backseats and into the boot (thats how i did mine)

ok, the RCA is not the same as remote turn on. Some amps have "high level inputs" for these you can just take the wire going to your rear speakers and connect it up. (Now your amp is getting an audio signal to AMPlify)

If your amp does not support highlevel inputs then, you will be using a RCA converter(the standard headunit does not have any RCA output) simply connect the R+L+ and the R-L- to one end and then you have a RCA signal. Now you need to connect the other end to your amp.

Most Amps require a "Remote Turn On Signal" this is a 8-12v power signal to let the amp know to turn on, Ideally you want the amp to turn on when you turn your Radio/CD player on. The stock seat ibiza head unit has a connector block on the back, its a black ISO block, there is a small black wire going into that, i spliced into this wire and ran the remote turn on cable along the passenger side of the car wiht the power cable, connect this to the REM port on your amp.

Now all you need to do is use some speaker wire to connnect to your new speakers and Sub.

Alternative option if your amp supports it;

Maybe you have a nice amp like myself that has a feature which enables it to turn on from the highlevel signal in which case you dont need to bother with a remote wire. Then the amp will just turn on when it hears an audio signal from the high level inputs.

I Hope this helps

I need ot Vagcom my car tomorrow anyways so i'll confirm if that small black on the black ISO is the remote signal i used. Sorry for bad grammer/spelling I'm jsut lazy and its bedtime

im glad i can help you. the whole point of this forum is to share knowledge and thats what i plan on doing while i own my seat. i have done it on other forums, and generally im willing to try things out before others to save other people problems as i dont mind tinkering with my car.

if you pull the facial plate off the standard head unit (if thats what you have) undo the two screws underneath the facia plate and slowly prize off the facia. carefully disconnect the ribbon cable going from the main unit to the facia then remove facia. once that has been done. ( not too sure on how to do this next bit but will give it a stab from memory reading it soemwhere)

i think there are a few screws you have to undo to release the HU from the centre consol. once these are undone pull out the HU and look on the back of the HU.

there should be several connectors in the back (2 or 3) one of these will be black. and i think pin 3 as shown in that other guide. if you follow this then pair off it using a blue crimpy thing that cuts in to the wire and means you can pair off without the need of soldering etc. run your REM from there backwards.

i dont know about all this stuff about high and low input amps and to be honest, unless you have a silly power sub and speakers (show style) it does not matter what you do.

the way i got the signal to my amp is (and i know some people will tell you this is a deffinatl no no to do but it works and most people do it if they dont have RCA on their HU.

on one of your rear speakers pair off 2 cables one from red and one from the other colour. next get an RCA plug with some cable, spice the end of the RCA cable so you can see the inner cable and the outer cable of the RCA. take the red to the outer and the other colour to the inner cable of the RCA plug. (does not matter whch way they are round.

once you have designated which cable is going to which. either solder or make a very good connection twisting the wires around each other (keeping the inner and outer cable seperate of each other)

then insulate the red and inner wire of the RCA then twist on connect the outer RCA and the other colour together then insulate them. i used black insulation tape for this. as well as soldering.

once this is done plug the RCA plug in to the amp, along with the earth, power and REM. and your amp should work fine.

if you want some pictures to make it more clear what i have said i am more than happy to but it will be about 8-9pm before i get home.

hope that helps again :)

also TBC if you are still having trouble i will be up in iron brige maybe a bit north of that on my canal boat for a week and a bit. if you still cant figure out how to do it give me a call (will send you a PM) and i will come and help :)

speaker wiring digram

hi
i have done your set up adam :D i have cut the stock speaker wiring coming out of the HU and hooked them to the rca converters i have had to put the boxes under the kick panel on drivers side there's good earth points there! there tucked in nicely and the rca leads to the amp i had to split 4 channels over 6 but got splitter for that worked a treat also used your remote lead idea connecting it to the fusebox but errr the amp wont go off and with it being a 10,000 watt amp its a thirsty thing lol. i am going to fit a switch on the remote lead! i got it all working i am running 4x1000w in the back and 600w in front then plus 900w sub so its a mega sound system i just having one problem i need to know the color codes for the speakers out the stock hu to connect to my alpine converters the setup works but one channel makes a massive pop gota feeling i have put either 2 positives or 2 negs to a channel i have done pretty well being a noob and all! but i just need to know what wires in the standerd hu are! for example the pairings and colors i got a diagram but it awful! because when i hooked the converters i just whacked any speaker wiring in the many choc blocks i used! please help people links or anything i will take photos soon and youtube a video because this set up is one not to be missed! oh i also sound proffed the car for that extra bassy encloser sound.
