Have an 04 FR TDi looking for a set of alloys to put winter tyres on wondering if these would fit as they are advertised as "Seat Ibiza Fr 5x100 17" alloy wheels" & mine currently have the standard 16" FR.

Pic of the alloys for sale (think they're from the facelifted FR)

There are also another set online of the original 16" alloys however how would I make sure they are genuine alloys please?

You should be fine with the facelifted ones, as long as they're off a vag you should have no trouble fitting them unless you have done some crazy dropping work

Nope the car is completely standard the issue I was worried about is the clearance/rubbing of the front ones & also the hub but I think the 16" ones are also 5x100

Can I suggest that you drop down to 15" wheels for winter tyre use, these 17" will be very wide and because of that you will need to fit wide winter tyres - winter tyres need to be narrow to allow them to work well in slush and snow.

For instance, my wife has a new 6R Polo, that comes with 16" wheels that are 7J wide and 215 wide tyres, I've just bought a set of 15" VW alloys that are 6J wide and have got 185 wide tyres put on them.

How to tell if a wheel is genuine VAG - ask the seller for the VAG part number cast into the wheel, there will also be wheel diameter, wheel wide expressed as something like "6.5J" and the wheel offset expressed as something like "ET46". There is an online VAG parts catalogue to cross check that you are buying a wheel for your model of Ibiza, so use that to keep you out of trouble.

Aaahhh that does make sense, was having the thin v wide tyre discussion with somebody at work the same day. I am now thinking to use the 17s as normal road ones and the 16s as winter tyres. In the past they've always worked well & never really had many issues with it.

Thanks for the response.

If your 16" originals are 7J wide, the narrowest tyres that you should fit to them is 205, though you might not get a winter tyres of that width that keeps your rolling radius correct. Nothing to be lost in trying to see what is out there.
