(Sorry about the awful start to the thread, it's late and I'm on a nightshift ...)

Basically ever since owning my 07 cupra I've had trouble with the main beam xenon bulb on the drivers side. Turning off intermittently and the likes.
About 2 week ago the headlight stopped working completely, replaced the bulb and nothing still.
I ended up taking it to a vw 'specialist' today and he plugged it into a diagnostic machine and it told him basically there was no signal getting to the bulb. So he put a new bulb in it, even though I put I new one in about 3 days ago. he said it 'wasn't the correct bulb' even though the same bulbs in the passenger side headlamp and that works fine.

Obviously this didn't work and I still got charged £70+ and wasted an hour of my life. He wants me to book it back in so they can 'investigate' more (make more money off me)

I'm just wondering has anyone else had any problems like this with xenon bulbs and how they rectified it. Don't fancy paying the £466 he quoted me for a new headlamp...

Could it not just be the bulb loose in its holder, would explain why it Used to flicker on and off. Have you checked the fuse? The last time the bulb blew it could have taken the fuse out.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Not sure if this will work with xenon's but it does with standard. Something to do with the Canbus system I think.

I get this problem from time to time, it's really annoying, but yeh either disconnect the battery for 10 mins or disconnect the bulbs for abit and it resets. It's been happening ever since I fitted a HID Kit. Need to look into getting another kit to see if it's the kit that's the problem.

None of the bulbs I have put in have actually blown I just thought they had so I replaced them, also it's not really a flickering in either on or off for days at a time. I tend to drive round using my headlights all the time.

However tomorrow I will try disconnecting the battery to see if that works.

Is there not a control unit (silver box thing) that sits underneath the bulb compartment that could of gone a bit dodgy?

Could be a ballast issue if you have the bi-xenon headlights. I would have thought the garage would have checked it for you though or at lease check the cables are connect up and not loose.

Just read the reciept from the garage and it says they got two fault codes

00979- o/s low beam bulb in-op (pretty obvious haha)
02234 - o/s headlamp output stage no signal

Has anyone had that second code when they've fault scanned the headlamp?

The xenon heaights have 2 controllers iirc
My bulb went on my car had it changed under warranty , they tried to change the bulb first.
They ended up replacing the module that's on the headlight itself ,if you have a look at your headlight there is a silver box attached to it and a further one that sits underneath.
Can't remember which one they changed but it was a headlight out job.

Just for your info your bulb has a lifetime warranty so if your bulb ever does blow you can get a replacemt from seat.

Hi Rob, sorry to revive this 10+ years later, but are you sure the xenon bulb is covered under lifetime warranty? ive rang the dealer and they said nothing is covered under lifetime warranty. At this point the car will not be under manufacturers warranty.

Yeah the dealer is correct. There is no way they have a lifetime warranty.

All VAG brands do typically cover xenon bulbs for the full term of the manufacturer warranty / approved used warranty, which is perhaps what the previous poster meant.
