I just tried it based on your post (E51) - Fantastic - it worked like a dream. No need to do anything (except pairing), contacts just uploaded automatically after 20 secs.

I now have functionality which I had in 2007 (the date I switched to the E51 and was subsequently soo dissppointed this aspect did not work))
I thought it would never get fixed.
