hi im new to this forum i went to see a mk3 ibiza cupra in yellow today and it had got a bit of paint fade i was woundering if a good buff with a machine will make it look better? also does any body have pictures of before and after pics if it has worked for them thanks

i don`t have any pics, but i`d recommend Farrecla G6 it will be like new afterwards. take your time though

i find it really odd that seat would put a clearcoat over a non metallic basecoat, usually the laquer/clearcoat has UV inhibitors, that prevent fade and is normally used over metallics.

it would be costly for seat to use this method on a solid base coat, partly why you pay more for metallic out of the show room.

if your paint is looking slightly white, very pale this should just be oxidation and UV bleaching on the surface and can be removed by polishing.

did a bodyshop tell you it can only be resprayed? in some cases it can just be to save time, a flat down and once over really doesn`t take long.

i have mopped my friends yellow leon cupra and got good results

for what it costs for some G6 and polishing cloth it would be well worth trying, i`d also recommend the black finger sponge from Farrecla also its nice and soft.

Absolutely, however the big problem with Ovni Yellow is that it generally isn't the clear coat that has oxidised. It's the pigment in the yellow base coat that has started to break down causing the fade. No amount of polishing will fix that (well not unless polish right through the clear coat but then you'll have problems to deal with. :) )

It is always worth trying to polish a panel up, just in case it is just oxidised clear coat, but bare in mind particularly with Ovni Yellow it may not be.

as Ben said (Rubbish Boys), and others, you will need a respray! It's the fact that the clear doesn't have UV "Protectors" in it and cause the colour coat to fade, and not the clear....

Take it from someone whos has this many posts

I've seen a lot of Ovni/Onvi yellow cars, and all of which require spraying!

resray indeed mine is not as bad as some others that i have seen but it still bugs me seeing the roof and bonnet to be slightly faded good thing its going to JAKES for a respray in a few months:D

Aye am afraid the only option is a re-spray as i found at the tail end of last year....since i bit the bullet i've not regretted getting it done!!

i also agree, that was the 1st thing i got done to mine was a respray afraid its the only option, mine looks ace now though no fade and nice and shiney
