Hello mate.

I watch this forum for a few days now, i made an account just to inform you that the sounds are normal. I have spoken to alot of cupra owners and read alot of posts on the net and EVERYONE has this issue, its not a problem so advices as SUE etc are very misinformative. Enjoy your cupra and dont be afraid that something will break.

From my reading i realised that techie has an in depth understanding of cars. Maybe he can explain you the fact that this car has 2 clutches. One big and one smal so when u drive with 3rd gear the fourth is already mounted . I cannot explain further as i lack the knowledge of components in english terms. If he knows what i mean maybe he can expand from there.

Edit: I forgot to mention i own the ibiza cupra and i have the sounds also

got back from the dealer but the workshop is closed for 3 day's because there getting a new floor.
but i drove with a mechanic of them and he heard it to and sad that it wasn't normal.
i wil get in touch with them nec\xt week to get it booked so they can take a closer look in it.
by the way tested it but it is always i try'd if it was gone in neutral but it still was there.

at grdude cupra it is defenitly a problem cause first of not everybody has the sound so when thats the case and the sound is normal then everbody that dont have that sound has a problem cause no sound then would be a problem and second a car of this price should not make rattling sounds even old cars that are in good shape don't produce rattles of any kind so why should whe tolerate it.

You do realise that this is a dry clutch system right?

A search on google on a VW group forum about DSG sound will show you that every1 that has a DSG from VW group has this sound

If it is a problem then can some1 plz post and say that he got it replaced or fixed cos i havent seen one that has. bare in mind that i am reffering to the clucking sound only, because there has been reports with non funtional gearboxes that died within the first 500 km of the car

I just watched your video,i have to admit no i am not reffering to this, i speak about the subtle clunk. I do not know to what extend the sound is altered due to holding a camera out of a moving car.

The reason u see me say this is normal, is cos people panic, shout at their dealer, feel they got cheated and were given a bad car and generally ruin their experience of a new car. A subtle clunk with a bit increased sound on rough road is normal. Any other problems when changing gear, car not moving healthy is another story and most likely is a problem. I have no reason to lie to any of you i am not a VW group mechanic.

i wish it was just a clunk! but it's not!
it's rattling noises, very weird rattling noises like two light metal pieces are loose and banging together, and not only do i hear this sound when the gearbox is changing, but when driving slowly on a bad road!
everyone next to me can hear it also!
and yes i feel cheated, cos when you buy a new car, you expect its gearbox to be silent (more or less) not doing weird clunking and rattling noises!
They didn't tell me at the dealership that your gearbox will make noises!!!!

just put seat ibiza 2010 rattling noises on youtube and you will see my video and hear those rattling noises!

i understand your point and i understand that a little clunk or so is normal when engaging a gear or select reverse you havel that sort of sounds also on a manuel transmission but i am also a carmechanic myself and this sound is not a sound that is normal with any car i get it booked next week to there workshop and this week i get in on a lift on my work and see if there is anyway to replicate the noise on the lift so i can listen under the car where its coming from and than bring to the dealer and say what they have to do to notice the sound so they can solve the problem. i probeble can solve it myself or with some help of a local dsg specialist but i just drove 300km with it and i got my warranty so i don't see why i should do that

becuase you will get some grease monkey air guning away at it like they do at my work. luckily i am a seat dealer but would still look into it myself first to try hear it, take it you have a ramp ? doubt you will find anything and you will have to book it in, but i must be the only person here who hates sending cars to dealers becuase ive seen how some get treated or even better, the 18 yr old apprentise road tests it for the noise and thrashes it becuase he drives a wanky fiesta in real life.. then theres parking it in there car park and getting 6 door dents... or it gets smacked in the car park and they repair it without telling you.

rant over i spose lol. :)

i did a good test drive now and listend very carefull if there was anything triggering the sound. i will explain. i heard the sound the most when i drove into my neighborhood so i went testing it here. then i drove it with the manual mode and left it in second gear and had no noise than shifted 1 gear there was the sound and was gone when the gear was engaged. so my explenaition is that is is the shifting noise and in d mode it shifts to 4th gear and then back so 2nd than to 4th and back to 1st for the parking so it was alsmost shifting the whole road to home so it looked like a rattle al the time but is was only there when it was shifting it is also not that loud so i think its the normal sound for this box to make when shifting but its shifts so much. so al the guy's with the sound try it in manual and leave it in a gear and listen if the sound is still there if not i think nothing is wrong with your box. i still wil have my eyes open if over time the sound changes or the gearbox is going to shift different but for now i think this is normal and maybe will get less when the gearbox is bedded in. i mean a new manual gearbox also changes al little stiffer than when it is bedded in.

M3rta, how many Kms have you done on your seat?
the noises in my car are getting worse... i'm 2000 kms now.
and i am not convinced that a gearbox should do this kind of noises!
and why are these noises appearing on bad roads or whenever you drive to a bump? if it's a normal noise, then it should be heard on all gear changes, and on alltypes of roads!
Many cars are fitted with this gearbox: the new polo, the new golf, the new audi a3, the skoda, the EOS, the Jetta. will all the owners of these cars accept these noises?
i'm pretty sure that there is a problem in this gearbox, but they are just refusing to confirm it!

then maybe you got more of a problem than i have. if done 350kms now and i think the noise is getting less and i have it on every surface but only when changing a gear. so you should stil try to convince your dealer that you have a problem but i think i don't have the problem you have. i will still keep my eye out for the sound and if it changes if i got like 1000kms on it and its still there my car is getting booked. by then i will keep you posted about problem.

i already sent an e-mail to seat at [email protected]
they replied that they forwarded my comments to the importer in my country, who will analyze the case and get back to me.
But the importer in my county is denying that there is a problem!!!
what to do next?

Hi Najiabinder,
I have had my 1.6 DSG Ibiza for six months now, done in excess of 10,000 miles and have had no issues with noises or gear changes.
There does appear to be a problem on yours and I can see how frustrating it is for you.[:@]
As suggested to you by someone else on this thread you need to inform the dealer & Seat that you intend to go to the motoring press and consumers organisation if you have that in your Country if this problem is not fixed.
Good luck & keep us updated.

Hey Jamjar
Many thanks for your support!
The thing is that when i went to the dealership, they made me drive another 0 km car, and it had the same noise, and i met someone who had an ibiza coupe who was complaining about the same car !!!

I'm really frustrated and kind of given up on this issue!

got my car to the dealer for this problem. it is a gearboxmount that causes the noise. its a common problem and is registrated in there system since 3 june this year. so it is not known for that long. i have to wait a few days before they have the new mount.

Hi there
I'm new here, and yesterday got my new 2010 IBIZA FR TSI DSG from the dealer.
On that same day I noticed that there are those strange rattling noises that sounds like metal to metal clancks when it is in D position going over bumps at low speed.
I was told by the dealer that this is the way this box work and that it is perfectly ok and well known and approved by the factory as well.
I wonder though, is it realy ? or are they just trying to get rid of me?
Any news on that old subjuect would help alot.
Thanks in advance for the answers.

No news from my side.
I gate up going to Seat's garage. They are a bunch of disrespectful jerks.
The breaking is also being very harsh When the gear is changing from 3rd gear to 2nd gear.

I'm selling this piece of junk once the warranty is over!

Worse purchase i've ever made

I'm sorry to hear that.
I got a formal answer saying that is their noises and they claim it is fine as is.
I asked for a formal document from the factory! they promissed to deiver.
Anyway, thats too bad, couse the car is otherwise a realy swit car (at least for now).
Hope things will be ok, what can I say..
I'm also going to sell when the warrenty is over, couse I'm a bit affraid to be honest.
Thanks for the replay

Hi guys,
New to the forum but i watch it frequently. As most of the guys here i had also the rattling noises from the dsg. I knew about it before i got my car from other vw drivers so i wasn't givin it much attention as every guy i spoke told me it was normal. A few weeks ago i was at the dealer for another job (they changed the a/c compressor because it was noisy). While i waited for the car i was talking to the tech manager about the dsg asking if there would be an update that will shorten the time gears shift from the paddles,if there is a program about it from revo or anyone else etc. A week after i got my car back he phone me to tell me that there was an update from the factory for the dsg regarding some noises (he didn't tell exactly what) and i would be the first to test it. I thanked him and book a date for the update. Unfortunately when i went for the update he had the day-off and i forgot to ask the other tech guy what was it about. They told me that the update was for the dsg and the engine as well. After driving my car i found out that 70% of the noises went away, no more clunking noises except some times over bumps, the gears shift even smoother especially when downshifting and better overall behavior. I think you should check it with your dealer as it seems it solves most of the problem.

Sorry for the long post and any language mistakes.
