Need Help from more experienced SEAT specialist members

Hi All,

I'm new to this and don't know much about cars. I have been browsing this site and can seem to find the answer so im hoping that i get the attention of some SEAT experts/specialists, and see if anyone else has experienced this before.
(I HAVE THREE QUESTIONS BELOW)

I purchased a Seat Altea 1.9Tdi DSG for my wife (which see loves) and shortly after getting it (approx 1-2 months) i noticed that the air con was not working properly, it was working and blowing hot and cold air but not as you would expect.
I never followed this up under the warranty.
(During the warranty 12 months i did have a seat service and was put on the diagnostic machine for a concern with the automatic gear box).

I am the second owner and it has a full SEAT service history.

Last week i brought it to be re-gassed to improve the air conditioning (at a local VW dealership) and was adviced that I needed a new AC pump, they suggested that i go back to SEAT and see if they will help rather than me paying them.

Seat advised that i must get it checked out a SEAT dealership before they can have a look at any goodwill gestures, I got this checked out yesterday and they have confirmed that it does need a new AC pump and pollen filter and would let me know what they can do. So far they have been unable to give me an explanation as to why this would happen.

I must stress that the vent still have air passing through them and when i turn the temperature up or down it does increase or decrease but not 100%.

My Gut feeling is that this issue has been there when i bought the car or shortly afterwards, and would have been there when it got the first service (When the car was under warranty), what i am not sure is would SEAT choose not to repair this under warranty in the hope that i would never ask about it, or choose to pay for the repair after the warranty expires?

My 3 Questions are,

1. Is this a known fault, has anyone experienced this before?
2. If this fault was present when i bought the car, or when it was being serviced/checked for faults would this show up on the machine? and if so would it be recorded on the system?
3. Does any one have experience dealing with SEAT on issues outside of warranty? any hints or tits would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you in advance for your help, and i hope that some of you experienced members can help me get this resolved

Many Thanks
Marty

To be honest I think that Seat would still repair under warranty, because the garage doing it would get paid for the warranty work. It wouldn't be in their interest to ignore it. I have had 2 new ac compressors. So it isn't an unusual fault but quite expensive!
I am not sure if this would show up on the fault diagnosis machine, probably, but someone on here would be able to confirm.:)

I don't have any experience of seat outside of warranty but I believe they do a 'bit' outside of warranty, worth pursuing! Good luck and let us know how you get on?:D

thanks, and update

Thanks peeps,

I have been discussing this with the dealership i bought the car from.

They assure me that it did not have a problem when i bought it but it may have started shortly after, they have no way to say when it started.

They have a record of the car being checked for the gearbox and no fault showing, they have also stated that they would not have seen a fault for the aircon at this time as it does not show on the standard check.

They have also reiterated that it is now out side of warranty and they can go back retrospectively, even if the fault was there previously.

I have been discussing with SEAT customer services and they are offering my 30% contribution towards the replacement a/c compressor (reconditioned one) which will only cost me £624? (Which i this is very expensive, correct me if i'm wrong) because the car has a full service history.

I am still waiting on another call tomorrow from SEAT for more a confirmation of this offer.

CAN ANYONE SUGGEST WHERE I MAY BE ABLE TO GET A RECONDITIONED ALTEA A/C UNIT MY SELF AND GET SOMEONE ELSE TO FIT IT (OR IS THERE OFFER A GOOD ONE?)

Thanks Again
Marty

I think the compressor I got was about 600 quid. Although I had and still do have a warranty with warranty direct . Co uk. Luckily! Let me know how you get on.
