did the alternator come with a new pully? some companies supply them without and the original must be swapped over.
also make sure your pas fluid is not too low.

this sounds like something i have just be pointed out on my leon tdi 150. I took it to VAS Motion and he said that it has had the incorrect Alternaitor fitted, they should basically have some sort of a clutch on them and this prevents the belt bouncing around and making all the noise.

If you ease your foot on the accelerator doe's the noise ease up?

The guy who is known through my family has told me if i get it changed it will make it would be alot quieter on tick over and when it's under stress

He did tell me that a normal garage would not spot this but he did due to him being a specialist

I was about to post a similar thread as this one....

After last service it started making a very rattly noise at idle & the tensioner looked to be really kicking back & forth, anyway it went away but has returned this week.
If I turn the aircon off it quietens down, if I put lock on at tickover it worsens, but quiet downs off idle.

Does this sound like the pulley on the alternator?? Is it an easy job to replace & is there a thread of how to etc??

Cheers
