Hi guys,

Got a weird one here - I can offer no explanation, can you............


My Leon seems to perform better in the HOT weather as opposed to the cold.

Now shouldn't the performance depend on the temp & density of the air, i.e. the colder it is, the better the car should run ????

Mine must be a woman & have hormonal problems !!! It's "OK" in the cold, but as soon as the temps warm up, it's like $hit off a shovel & I want to know why ??

do you mean engine temp or ambient air temp
a car will always perform better once the temp gauge is where it should be, you shouldnt be giving it any stick until it is at temp as your doing it damage

if you mean air temp, it should be better when its colder yes

Exactly - it "should" be better in the cold, but seems to perform a whole lot better when it is hot outside !!!

Thats water temp not oil temp you know

Maybe it's the tcs cutting all your power due to it being more slippy?

Just seen this old thread I created after discussing this again with Pete @ Bell auto's over the weekend.

My car still feels a LOT faster & more responsive (pre uprated remap lol) in the hot weather as opposed to the cold weather ??

I still dont get it, it's just totally wrong ???

My car's alot better when the weather is good, i put it down to the car being Spanish and hating the British weather!

I'm sure we could come up with one or two scientific/physics reasons why in this isntance, your car's air-fuel mix and MAF are prefering calibrating your car for rapid cycles when its hotter, than cold.

But in all honesty... are you not imagining it? Cold = Dense air. Dense Air + Fuel = Bigger bang, as we all know. Hmmm.. perplexing.

Perhaps the ambient temp outside is hovering around the "bang-on" mark for your Cupra to perform at its best?

Definitely not imagining it - thats just it, we all know the science behind it & it just doesn't make sense, it's truly a lot more responsive when it's hot outside !

I might get a RR done in the summer & one in the winter to see if I can log the evidence.......

Rob's stepped on a valid point, here.

You're going to certainly get a more grippy response from your circular feet in the warm. That's an undeniable fact. Could it be the more aggressive launches and therefore faster sprints to the big numbers on the speedo are possibly explained by traction?

Perhaps the sunny weather is affecting the weight of your right boot??? I know I like to "press on" when the sun is shining - just feels good

Mine's definately not to do with traction or the need to go faster in hot weather.

I was thinking the very same thing the other day and I was also confused! Ive had some amazing drives back from work on warmer days and the car feels good and more responsive like you say.

I was thinking that it was because i was preffering the windows open instead of climate control on but not thinkin that now.
I'm inclined to think lickwid is right saying that the ambient air temp is around the "bang on mark", as I would imagine that (an this is a total guess so dontlaugh if it sounds sh*t)....there would be a temperature of optimum efficeincy and then the ECU and adapt fuel air ratio either way from that point.

I don't think im explaining what i mean very well but does anyone know what i mean??
