So I had to order some bits today, and was told that if Seat UK had them in stock they'd be here on Friday! :wtf: It's been a while since I've had to get bits in, but surely taking 3 working days to get parts in isn't normal???

Stock order on tuesday should be at the dealers on Thursday
If you can convince a delear to order VOR before about 3pm it is free of charge and should arrive next day.
Brendy's £5 charge is for a next day (premium) delivery ordered after about 3pm (I believe the cut off is in fact 3.30pm but its best to allow some time in case there are problems.

Well, car might as well be off the road as some pikey little sh1t tried to force to locks and busted the paddle that sits behind the lock barrel that operates the locking mechanism in the door. Both sides. So I can't actually lock the doors at the moment. IMHO, a car that can't be secured is worse than a car that can't be driven.

The thing that p1sses me off is that if the VW dealer were able to order the part (which, unfortunately in this instance is SEAT specific), they get it next day if it's in stock. The parts are held in the same fricking warehouse in Milton Keynes for goodness sake. Why does it take 3 days for a SEAT dealer to get parts when a VW dealer can get parts from the same warehouse next day? And why can't a VW dealer order SEAT specific parts? It's all VAG after all...

Bonkers...

Didn't you read my post just above yours? The SEAT ordering system is the same as VW's, as you say they come from the same warehouse (not in M Keynes btw but in Staffordshire), picked by the same pickers and (to a SEAT dealer just up the road from a VW / Audi / Skoda dealer) are delivered by the same lorry.

So either the dealer made a mistake or was being lazy, he could have got the parts next day if he wanted.

As to SEAT specific parts there are two arguments. A SEAT dealer wants to sell SEAT parts obviously and not want all his customers popping into a closer VW/Audi/Skoda dealer and getting his business. However a customer wants to be able to get parts easily and would like to go to the closer dealer. Also a VW/Audi/Skoda dealer would not generally have access to SEAT ETKA and therefore would not be able to identify SEAT parts. I don't imagine a VW parts manager would look kindly on his staff wasting time trying to do so (which would involve calling a SEAT dealer who would do all the work but not get the business) when they have VW customers to serve.

And that's kind of the point really, isn't it? I'd advised the parts man that I had no means of locking the car and as such would appreciate anything he could do to sort it ASAP.

TBH, I don't understand why this tiered system that seems to ensure that stuff only comes next day if it is specifically requested for next day exists. I've been ordering parts for various VW's for years, from various VW dealers, and if VW UK had the part in stock and you ordered before mid afternoon, it would always be at the dealer next day in the past. I thought the point of rationalising VAG UK's parts holdings to a single site handling VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda parts was supposed to increase efficiency. All it appears to have done is increase lead times (unless you, or more to the point, the parts man dealing with your request) specifically requests next day.

Thanks for the info that parts can at least be next dayed tho.

It is nice if parts can come next day but someone at the warehouse has to go and pick them. I would suggest that if the pickers are getting orders all day long for next day delivery they will be more hurried and make more errors. With a stock order they get the next days order first thing (even the night previously) and have longer to put the order together and get it right.

Skoda for example will penalise their dealers if they place too many VOR orders though it is a generous percentage allowance.
