It matters not it is only available on the petrol 2.0 tfsi, not the 170 tdi which is also rated @ 258lbft as the new S3 is...... i willl say again it is the torque that is the bug bear with the DSG / S tronic, the 200ps in the golf or altea is o.k as the torque is below the rating of the box![]()
just noticed you can get DSG on the new Golf GTI edition 30 (230ps) this looks to have the same max torque as the cupra, 300nm from 2200 to 5500 rpm

I've read two magazine reports which have both said that the Cupra runs the same gear (turbo / uprated internals) as the S3, so it must just be detuned.
I can see it having been a political decision in the VAG group and am pretty certain the Cupra will tune to the same level as the S3 with a remap.
The Cupra won't suffer the transmission loss of the S3 so will have more power on the rollers, and as long as it can plant it all down on the tarmac in real world terms it could be the quicker car.
