I would just like to say thank you for all your help and advise on cupra purchasing, but i have chosen to buy a clio 172 cup. after waying up the MPG cost once a cupra is modified against a modified 172 it works out a better deal with the clio, even though the build quality is not as good as the cupra, but Evo magazine did say the clio 172/182 is the best hatch since the golf mk1 and the williams.

So thanks for all the help and hope you all enjoy a full and enjoyable life with your cupras.

Peace:D

not a bad choice mum has the 172 there a nice car but i do much prefer the cupra over the 172 doesent seems as quick as the cupra by far.

hope you enjoy it anyway i looked at gettin 1 for ahwile before i found the cupra :)

The 182 is a good car my other halfs brother has one and it handles brilliantly and the engines sound the nuts when gunning for it !!

The build quality isn't too bad I mean the interior quality in the mk3 cupra aint nothing to write home about !!

If driven properly they will stick with most things on the road, I've seen him going for it with an Astra VXR and Focus ST and up to 80 mph there was nothing in it !! I wouldn't call a 182 slow !!

give us a flash when 1 of us overtakes you wont you :D

but please no racing, we try to only play with the big boys

PMSL! so true!!! the exact reason i went for a cupra over a 172. :D my cammed gti made mincemeat of 172's. there not "fast" at all. just fun really. the little clios still try it though!

interesting, you appear to be worried about fuel consumption so id expect you to keep the cars stock.
however you sound like you would modify whatever car you got.
modding the cupra will get you nice gains for sensible money, the clio id imagine would give you little gain for lots of money!

if you stayed stock, id say the clio is not a bad choice, (even a good one). if you mod its the cupra.

A mapped Cupra will eat a Clio, the 172 isnt as good looking IMO, but the 182 is getting there. Just depends what you want, i think the Cupra is more exclusive than a Clio but hey

Have you been in a clio 182 trophy they've got erm let me see.........nothing in them and they rattle and bang, however they are pretty wuick and do handle very well. Friend had one and now shes traded it in for a s2000. Now thats quick. Good luck with your new car mate.

mpg and modified in the same thread ? lol whatever next

im biased as i dont go anywhere and mpg (16v + a twin turbo V8) is something not to think about in this house

good luck anyway dude i'm sure you will love it for whatever reason - enjoy

Good luck with it, but the build quality and lack of being french should have swung your decision over to the cupra.

I wouldnt belive MPG figures, ever, even if someone tells you thats what they get, as its simply too dependent on driving style, type of journey, number of people in the car.......

JAmes

clio sports aren't bad on mpg from what I've heard, 35ish. Driven/been in a couple and they are quite quick. Build quality isn't good at all. Steady with the 172cups in winter! no ABS can be a problem from what I've read.

oh, and the 2.0 really isnt tunable at all. If I remember right from the clio forums some of the tuners talk about 20bhp for ~£2000.

my mate had a 172 cup and it drank juice for fun! and once again not that quick
get a teg type r they are good on fuel and very quick
i had one after my williams 2 and the teg was far better on juice

A well driven 182 will easily stay with a Civic Type-R !! Been in Pauls 182 when a Type-R has given it and started to leave it, not by much but still !! The Power to weight in the clio is alot better than the Civic !!

You can't really compare a 1.8T against a 2.0 NA.. Of course its gonna be easier and cheaper to get more gain/pound out of a Turbocharged engine than a NA !!

As an all round package I think the Clio is a great car !! Build quality aint exactely great but it aint the worse. I'd say the interior quality is on par with a mk3 cupra interior !!

And as for a mapped Cupra eating a 172... Of course it will as its been mapped to produce more BHP but out of the factory they'd be more or less the same and round the bend the clio would eat an ibiza in standard setup !!

Sorry to sound like going against the cause but just my opinion..
