power upgrade of 2.0 TDI engine

Considering upgrading my 140 BHP TDI engine. Am undecided about whether to go for an add on unit such as the Tunit which can be adjusted or the new Superchips Bluefin upgrade. Desire for more low down torque than BHP for towing caravan. Any experiences or comments would be welcome. Thanks Mike:)

Well, I've had a tuning box and then a remap. Remap is a bit better, Celtic tuning did mine, effortless urge now. Didn't go bad with the box either, but power spread and smoothness is better with the remap. If you can pick up a box cheaply , then might be worth it. Avoid the resistor type boxes on ebay.
My remap cost £360 and they came to my house to do it. No complaints. Good value bhp per pound! You don't really need the adjustment imho.
My car has the DSG box and its a custom remap for that, but if you have a manual, then you can have a bit more grunt.

I had a remap - now pulls out 194 BHP and 302Nm torque. The increase is mind blowing. I reckon I could tow a North Sea Ferry let alone a caravan!

£350m is a bargain if you can get it - I paid £500 for mine. Best money I've ever spent.

Awesome figures, but I'm betting that he doesn't use the DSG box and the upgrade cost a bit more than £360. Must be a stunning machine nevertheless.
Very pleased with Celtic's remap, excellent value at the price and the service provided. I'd have it done again in an instant, a no brainer for that money.

Tell, traction isn't as much of a problem as you might think. Take off is pretty well controlled and the remap doesn't just shove up the profile of the original torque curve, more flattens it out, so the grunt is very useable.

Hi Chaps

Dont get a plug in box over a re-map. A re-map is better for the engine, injection system and transmission. Also, the power will be much more drivable, spread across the rev-range.

Just for the record, we can supply these plug in units, but do not recommend them over a proper re-map.

This is an emotive subject. All mods should be notified, some do, some don't.
Most maps, we are told are normally undetectable, unless the tester has factory standard equipment. Individuals make their own choices and stand by them when the time comes.
Remaps , for me are the best value for money mod out there, I wish I could get the sort of gains for my sports car for the same sort of money as my Altea remap. ( Yes that is modified and all mods registered with insurer).

Hi There

We have done alot of work with the mapping on the 170bhp TDI's. Gains are approx +28bhp and +75NM of torque.

A map can also be programmed towards less torque and more BHP, which is approx +34bhp and +65NM of torque

what happens fuel economy just out of interest?
