Collected my new Black Leon TDI FR yesterday and have covered 250 miles so far. First impressions were a headlamp with condensation in it when I collected it but apart from that, and getting used to the suspension it's a joy, no rattles, squeaks, 40 mpg today on a fairly mixed drive (including seeing off a BMW that was about to cut me up as they always do) with speeds varying up to high. Why did I choose black, it looked gorgeous until this mornings drive, now it's dirty ! can someone get everyone to stay at home tomorrow so I can get a clear run and see what it will really do.

Hi Chris.
I just managed 400 miles in mine since Tuesday. No probs so far, really good fun to drive. My 1 mile journey home from the other half's took 2 hrs yesterday cos I had to go the long way! I have the 18" option alloys which make the ride harsher & handling better which is my preference. Feels so responsive & packed a mighty punch up a long straight bank, leaving a Clio sport behind this morning. I'm still trying to treat her gently but it's so hard not to just go for it at times!
Have you noticed how slow & awkward it feels to do 30mph? Or even 70mph on a motorway? I have to use cruise to keep legal.
Definately made the right choice. Although dirt spots show up too much on the yellow! I'm wanting sill guards as my first add-on.
Hope yours keeps going trouble free, enjoy!

Try keeping the black clean ! I have the 18's as well and know exactly what you mean about 30, 70 etc. Have just spent an hpor trying to mount my Tom Tom and run the power lead but am going to have to find a power supply further forward and another mount to keep it neat.

Chris

Yep, that power outlet by the handbrake is just too far back. I would've thought these days that they'd build something into / behind the dash for things like sat-navs.

... I have the 18" option alloys which make the ride harsher & handling better which is my preference ...

how much harsher? i'll very likely go for the 18" option if i opt for the leon when i change later this year, but NOT if the ride is harse to the point of being uncomfortable

It's not harsh ride, just firm and takes a little getting used to after my Focus but the reward is handling to compete with cars far more expensive.
A way around the power supply for the Tom Tom is to make a "jumper" lead from the cigar lighter fuse and mount a cigar lighter socket behind the dash clipped or cabletied to a suitable fixing then run the cable up the A pillar rubber to the tom tom.

Chris

Yes, harsh was probably the wrong choice of word.
After reading about peoples' comments about firm riding with the 18" alloys, I was worried having already ordered mine.
I can honestly say I made the right choice. It's certainly not uncomfortable unless you're on a real rural back road / lane full of potholes. On regular A & B roads & motorways it's an amazing drive. Go for the 18's!

Yup. 17's don't look nearly as nice. I ordered 18's purely for looks but any improved handling is a bonus.
The Leon arches are too big IMHO, and the car looks under-wheeled with 17's. You can't grumble for £350.

the only problem ive had with my 18's is pot holes and the odd drain cover have caught me unawares and took some dinks out of the wheels also have any of you had the rocking sensation at idle on the tdi 170 engine and bad diesel clatter on light throttle sometimes although this is intermttent its annoying especially after 7 months on and off

Pot holes are the bain of my life around here. Thanks for the heads up about drain covers and the likes.

You're right about the car looking too big for 17s.
