i have done 24000 miles in 10 months in 20vt and always used morrisons 95 ron. not a single problem with car, have tried tesco 99 this week cos you lot on here badger on about fuels and to be honest it a little smoother and a gnats **** faster.
But at 6pence a litre more and no mpg gain i for one think it aint worth it.
I may try v power soon as i find a shell garage close by

It takes more than one tanks worthot be truly effective. Stick with the Tesco 99RON stuff for the next two or three tanks and compare the MPG and performance differences. Then stick a tank of 'normal' 95RON in there and see what difference you feel.

yea you need a few tanks of whichever type of petrol your gonna start using, myself only use optimax as when i got my LC last august, i, being oblivious to the petrol grade filled it up with 3 tanks of 95,then read a thread about v-power so went to that for maybe 5-6 tanks, the difference in engine idling ,mpg, and responsiveness was like night and day,i then went to optimax as it was a 25 mile trip to the shell garage, the optimax i then found to be even smoother in the car again, hence never use anything else, but to each their own, costs 91.4/litre up this way and doing 330-350 miles per week i fill up every friday afternoon,at £50 for a tank full

This thread has got loads interested. The differences with fuel from garage to garage is significant to, the Tesco 99 is nowhere as good as V-power but having just gone to the oil burner I have found Tesco to return the lowest in terms of MPG. Shell and Asda being the best I have tried, maybe that's the same for you unleaded boys.

Having read all the posts its still very apparent that advice given by the manufactures is taken with pinches of salt but they have stipulated those so the car will perform and last. Remember that VW make the running bits and they have been doing a pretty good job of reliability for some years, even if our cars have problems and rattles from time to time.

V-Power is the future, it is the only fuel i have ever run the car on so i couldnt really tell you if it makes a difference but i agree with the quote that vw have done a good job at making reliable cars so maybe you should follow the instructions?

Apparently the ECU on a standard Cupra is mapped for 98 rather than 95 , which is mainly why the engine responds better to 98. It still won't do any harm to use 95 from a decent garage though!

Just on the last few drops of normal unleaded 95.... Going to fill up with
V-power in the morning... will run 3 tanks and then give an update....

Generally get 300miles to a tank at the mo....

My Cupra R was apparently run on V-power by the previous owner. After having it for 2 moths, i made a long journey to the north with the gf. I had no choice but fill up with texaco unleaded (95ron) I filled up about 3/4 of the tank and drove back home. Having driven the car for a about 150 miles, it seemed pefectly fine to me. However the next morning was different, the car felt a little less responsive, all the way to work.

I was scratching my head, then i thought it must be the 95 ron from texaco. I imediatlely switched back to V-power and i have noticed the car isn't as less responsive in the morning. It does make a difference i must say. Race engines and turbo charges engines need higher octain fuel to maintain performance.

BP Ultimate 102 ron is the best thing you can put into your car!

I tried BP Ultimate 102 ron today, bit pricey but il admit worth using occasionaly. There aint many about in the UK i was in aylsbury and found BP garage with Ultimate 102. Had to try it!! :D

Just purchased a LC........ well actually pick it up on Thursday:) My local garage is a Murco, and they have super unleaded, would this be the correct fuel to use.

Thanks

Im not sure of the octain level on them. All unleaded are 95 Ron. So murco super must be 98 Ron or higher. It doesn't say you Must always use 98 or higher, It tells you to use 98 Ron if you can. If you can't use 98, then 95 is the 2nd best option.

98 is recomended for performance cars as its more finer and burns quiker so it maintains engines performance. 95 will clog up injectors eventually if used continously over the years. Meaning some loss in performance.

Worth the little extra if you ask me.

Don't know where you got that from mate but its totally wrong.

There is absolutely zero reason why 95 will clog up injectors more than 98. The detergency of a fuel has nothing to do with its octane rating. Its entirely possible to get 95 RON fuel with better cleaning properties than a 98 RON fuel.

I believe that 98 RON fuel should be used as a minimum in the 1.8T but only for performance and economy reasons, nothing to do with cleaning properties.

I had an incident with my old car. It was an astra gsi. The injectors where cloged up. I asked my mechanic and he recomended those high octain booster stuff. After few miles with the octain booster, i noticed the car was responding far better. the mechanic told me some 95ron petrol are little thicker than others and that it can cause clogging if used alot. put me off going to that same garage.

my nearest shell garage is about 10 mins drive away. i drive all that way just to fill up with V-power, when there are 2 garage's just down the road.

The book does say use 98Ron and if not possible, then 95Ron is ok. Higher octain feul burns quicker and is very fine. it cleans the system, and doesn't leave crap behind in the fuel tank like 95Ron does.

This is my opinion though. Im speaking from experience!

Sorry to resurrect The Thread That Wouldn't Die but, I have an update on the Tesco's 99 vs V-Power argument.

Now I'll be the first to admit this is little more than anecdotal evidence but... I've been running on V-power for the last month and I am certain that the car feels like it's got more go in it on V-power than on Tesco's. So, I take back everything I said about Tesco's, and hereby state.. V-Power is the way and the light.

Now, let that be an end to it. ;)

Edit: Oh, and I'm getting another 20 miles from a tank.

Just done a round trip to wolverhampton and back on a full tank of V-power today. Total distance covered is about 320miles maybe lil more. Still had over 1/4 Tank left, and this was done after a remap i had from Performance Torque so i was pushing it hard too.

Roughly about £60 to fill a tank i think. In my reconing V-Power is very good fuel. Tried tesco 99Ron cnt say i rate it as much. Best fuel by far is BP Ultimate...Shame i don't have a BP Station in my town :(

You weren't trying hard enough, if you get more than 30mph hang your head in shame:doh:
