Interesting read...but: how on earth could someone think debris in the sump came from the flywheel ???

All driven off the same camshaft.

They did not think the debris came from the flywheel, they dropped the sump to find a single small piece of debris. They stripped the crank to find no faults, so must assume the debris had been there since the engine was built.

The flywheel had started to fail so was causing some vibration so they replaced that and the clutch to find it improved things but did not solve the missfire/poor running.

Just had the final bill of £1060 for 70K service, Flywheel, Clutch, new camshaft and followers! Think that is very reasonable to be fair!!

It is bloody cheap! They did the clutch and flywheel at cost as they thought that was the initial problem. Plus they waived all the labour for checking the bottom end. That's what I call fantastic service!! MidlandVW are the dogs danglies as far as I'm concerned!! Tops marks to Jody!

If this is common how many people have had it happen? The 150, in fact the PD engines have been out a long time now with thousands of owners, so are we talking all cars before 60k or just a few cars? my 150 seems OK but the fluctuating MPG I am putting down to fuel and who supplies it as I have been trying a few. let us know guys TA

Not sure if it's related but I've struggled to get over 420 miles to a tank for the last few months. Hopefully will be back up to at least 500 when I get it back tomorrow.

85k and still running fine :D

EDIT: note to self.. must not be paranoid about tappets....

<ill double check tomorrow as i usually have stereo on too loud to hear that its a diesel>

One of the common "features" of the PD130 is that when you take it to a dealer or somewhere similar, it gets ragged...

3 times now ive got mine back from a garage and its been "Tapping." I can only assume this is when theyve ragged it when its been stone cold and the tappits are sticking a little. Ive also noticed it on friends cars when they have done the same. Maybe this wear is mostly when cold as it seems to take a while for the tapping to go away, presumable getting the oil to the correct places!
