I emailed tracker with my vin and they confirmed that my LCR does have tracker fitted and that i can re-activate for £30 + £120 a year,

just wondering what would happen if the car got nicked and I then rang to re-activate , then 5 minutes later rang them again saying " you'll never guess what just happened ..... " :)

Ive been emailing them at www.tracker.co.uk , been dealing witha dude called graham, [email protected] , they seem pretty switched on, you'll need your VIN and Reg'n , then they can tell you if your motors got the gizmo fitted.

Still haven't decided if I can be bovered yet, gonna ring my insurance on Monday, see if I can bully them into giving me bit of a discount, if not then I'll probably not bother, still, its something to stick in your advert when it comes time to sell the car.

I'll keep you posted

It's one of those things that only seems worthwhile when you actually need it! It could sit for years, costing you money each year, without ever being needed. But then one day, if the worst happens and it gets stolen, you'll be damn pleased you paid for it.

Same as insurance, warranty and many other things really. You pay out for it hoping to never need it :)

I've got a tracker fitted on mine but I pick it up today or tomorrow after a long hard insurance wait.. :(

I picked up mine at the weekend and it had a tracker on it. I have in the last few days rang round the ins co's and all the competitive ones did not reduce the premium for having one atall.

I am not going to activate mine then as I don't have a spare £150 to kick things off with it.

Yeah, that's a fair call. I've got it fitted but paying £150 just go get it up and running is a bit steep imo.

I'm with Bell.co.uk for insurance, but it didn't make a blind bit of difference to the quote!!

Mine has a tracker fitted but it's dormant. There's no point, i've got a stock Leon - if it gets stolen, i'll be expecting a replacement that hasn't been abused :)

I can't speak for all models of Leon (since i'm post-2003) but surely you've all got decent immobilisers fitted?

Yeah - standard one is ok, but as someone said, someone who knows about cars and trackers will know where to find it and 'lose' it somehow. If only tracker made the cost more reasonable then I would do it, bit if it does not even save my insurance premium then forget it.

Who would want a car back that has been thrashed? not me - i'd rather take a cut from insurance payout, put some more money in and buy another one.

Personally, since trackers charge a fairly hefty yearly fee - it'd be more sensible to invest in security film. It looks better, actually PREVENTS the car being stolen in the first place, and actually reduces your premium...

True, it's a hefty investment - but if you're keeping the car for a few years, it'll easily weigh up against the tracker.

Did i dream this story or was it true,

Someone had their car stolen, which had an un activated tracker. The owner of the car informed the police, who ordered tracker to turn on the system on so they could locate it. If they refused they would be done for obstruction,

Somebody pinch me.

I managed to get a rather nice insurance lady on the phone about trackers once. Seems they would offer a refund of £50 if I payed out the >£400 to have a tracker fitted. She did also point out that if I have a tracker and don't keep it active, my insurance will not pay out if the car is stolen. Similar to having a disklock and not fitting it. Although not declared they consider you negligent for not using it.

Risky, but I'm relying on my gap insurance if some arse comes along in the next 10 months.

This is something I've heard a couple of times recently. It seems insurance companies are only offering discounted insurance on tracker fitted cars if it's installed, working and live at all times. It becomes a condition of the insurance policy, which is how they can reduce the premium.

In fairness, a non-activated tracker is about as useful as a lemon when it comes to security. Granted, they can be activated at a later date if needs be, but I suspect that most companies won't activate them for the "one time they're stolen" - or everyone would just have inactive ones installed.

I still don't see the point - if you're worried about recovering personal items like a phone or laptop, either individually mark those with trackers, or don't leave them in the car :)

Yeah agree with you . I always remove valuables, mainly because of the damn damage these people do trying to nick your stereo or phone etc.

As for the tracker, I am happy not activating it, but if I lived in a rough area or always parked my car on a main road/street then I would not hesitate to activate - peace of mind and all that.
