180 ish BHP in Diesel Ibiza should see you level peg with a Type R till about 80, Anymore and you will sneak past them (till 80 ;) ) .

Cant say ive had any problems with the few ive come across on trackdays (which are not entirely suited to diesels), but still have yet to be troubled by one, and have passed all the ones ive came across.

If you can stump up the cash for the Cupra, I would, but if you want a Q-car, get the 130 sport, you get a few extra goodies, and can be picked up for cheap. As mentioned I wouldnt worry about mileage.

When you said CTR i thought you meant a RUF CTR :) Oops!

I reckon you should get a Remapped FR or standard Cupra TDI as that will have more than enough poke to stay with a Type R to well past 100.

go for the FR, cheaper and more fit for your new circumstances, cheap insurance, more stealth looking so can leave in uni car parks over night and not be too worried about losing it. plus better MPG, oh and if you really miss the performance then you can always remap afew months later on and have same go or more than the cupra.

I was looking the other day, 50k mile FR's start at £6995 and there are some nice 5 plate sports 130's for £5300 up with not stupidly high milage. Tempting me all the time now for that money.

 haven't had chance to go looking today but should be leaving work early tomorrow to hopefully go get a test drive in an FR :)

Not sure how much the Vrs's are going for these days, but if you can get past the badge they may be worth looking at if the price is right.

Not that keen on them to be honest + they are going for around the price of my civic so i won't save much :(

Does anyone know if 180bhp is possible with the FR TDI using a remap + mods?

If you mean the Ibiza FR then it's just about possible depending on mods and the good ol' Dyno Lottery. If you're talking about a Leon then it's definately possible.

I think its a safe choice anyday, quids in pocket, few mods can make it as fast if not faster then a CTR so map it and ur laughing. :D

FR Tdi is definately able to hit over 180bhp, with my car at one point apparently producing 197bhp after a remap with an air filter and miltek exhaust ;) However, keep it within the limits of the clutch, which you might want to replace straight away anyway (£700ish)

I have done this exact step down

CTR 30th Anniversary to Ibiza Cupra TDI 160

All i can say is i dont regret it and i'm enjoying the extra 120 quid in my pocket at them end of the month too!!

I originally sold my CTR, even though i loved it and paying for it wasn't a problem, to help free up some cash for a good deposit on a house. So the CTR went and i had a Fiesta Zetec-S (fun go-kart) for 2.5 years. then this July i went out ans test drove all of the new superhatches and almost took the plunge on the new CTR...............but i thought do i really want it, after all i really want an S2000 but i just can't stretch to one.

So i had a word with my sis, who works for SEAT to see what deals she could get me, and she got me 1300 quid off a brand new Ibiza Cupra which was hard to say no too!

So here i am today 3 weeks later after getting my car and i love it. Its great fun pulls like a train and now ive sorted the stereo sounds good to. Next thing to do is a remap when i come back from the Nurburgring, to bring it up to CTR a powerout.

Oh and the brakes on the Cupra are even better than the CTR's, and the CTR has fantastic brakes, but the Cupra brakes are immense

You wont regret it i haven't

if i did more miles i would chop abck to a TDi ibiza no probs. Just in the last 10 months ownership of the Mini i have only done 8000 miles so will finish year at about 10k ish at most, so not really enough to justify a diesel again. Where as before i was doing 42k a year made sense.

Cheers for the reply's guys. Just been to see the Ibiza FR TDI as mentioned before. Didn't have time to test drive although the car looks in really good condition. The build quality and interior seem alot nicer than i originally thought it was going to be. The seats aren't too high which is an important thing as im used to the low height of the civic.

I was offered £9k for my mint 04 face lift civic with air con + £500 off the £7.5k Ibiza. Which after doing different calculations seems a very decent offer seeing as the civic needs a £300 service + no hastle of selling private.

One thing that troubles me though is there is no FR badge on the back but it's definietly an FR judging by the interior and body kit. Also the cup holder thing that slides out in the middle of the dash doesn't seem to come out (looks as if it's been pushed in too much and jammed. Is this normal?) :( things like that annoy me if im buying a new car.

Ask the garage to have a look at the cup holder. May need a new 1 and if thats whats going to make you buy the car, chances are they will fix it pretty quick.

The back may have been debadged by the previous owner, but im sure you could get new 1s from the dealer.

But, you could leave them off for that stealth look.

Been a while since I posted on here - been more into bikes since passing DAS last year and found it's a seasonal hobby. With Autumn/Winter having come early (starting in May this year, and not finishing until March next year at this rate) biking is rather less fun, should have bought a bloody jet ski.

I've used the car to basically plod to work and ferry the wife/kid round on a weekend (Leon Fr Tdi remapped) but I'd say it's definitely worth changing to for any petrol lovers still out there. Even when thrashing the thing I get 450 miles to a tank. Recently played with an R32 and up to 120 there was nothing in it, then it started to pull away (and the Leon started chucking out more smoke with me checking the calendar to see if/when 130 would come up sometime soon) so it's a fun drive, cheaper insurance, great fuel econonmy and been 100% reliable so far. Only downside is it loves a steady diet of tyres, maybe the way I drive I guess. Fronts lasted 5k miles :( Spent a grand on tyres this year with the Leons, the Wifes' bora wanting a full set and the bike after I changed the sprockets (lowered gearing) more or less lunched the back tyre in about two ride outs... D'oh!

With regards the 'slow' diesel thing, I don't think that applies any more. Most of the cars you see racing about during the day are reps in diesels I'd say (all the boy racers come out at night I find) and the german diesels go really well once chipped.

Oh yeah, that's the other thing. You *need* to get the car chipped, it's almost compulsory I would say :)

Enjoy!

It didn't do well on the rolling road at Well Lane turbo. 178hp, the guy who tuned it really knows his stuff, and the way the car goes suggests it has more that what it put out. Something along the lines of 280lb ft I think as well.

Saying that, it only had something like 3k miles on the clock when it was done, still tight, but I was disappointed with the figures, not with the performance or fuel economy, and think I'll get it roaded again at some point, to see if it's loosened up with 33k on the clock now.

My bike put out 132hp/76lb ft at back wheel, not bad for an old (11 year old) banger, goes a fair bit better than the car, though steering is a problem when the front wheel wants to stay off the ground...

I was going to change the car but don't see any point - it does everything I want it to do, performance, economy, reliability ... Gagging for a newer, faster bike though!

Oh, and the rain to stop so I can use it *sigh*
