My first post on here as a mainly vauxhall owner. Having been into clubs for years i know the best place to come for advice is places like here so hopefully you guys will be able to help me out.

Im looking at a £995 98R Cupra 2.0 8V Sport. Says new clutch, tyres etc 12 months MOT... but 136K miles. Can these cars handle that sort of mileage? It wil get an occansional hammering when i do a sprint/hillclimb, but most of the time it will be the daily driver 2nd car.

as long as it has been looked after, I would say it will be fine, the other parts seem to give out before the engine does

check the gearbox is working properly, and isn't crunching, whirring, whineing or jumping out of gear

check the car isn't using too much oil and the usual stuff for the head gasket

check the rear arches and sills at the door joins for rust, ibiza's seem to be prone to rust

check the leccy windows & wing mirrors (if fitted) work

if the cars in decent nick, that sounds an ok price as the 8v's seem to be getting cheaper these days

enjoy, 8v's are great fun

Yeah it'll handle 200K if looked after, it's VAG engineering after owning Vauxhall's you'll be astounded how much abuse they can take with just a little TLC!

as the others have said, they are fairly bullet proof having VW kit in them but do the obvious checks and you'l not go too far wrong..

Oh, and Welcome :)
