LC Broken Exhaust Bracket

I just had the car back from a service and MOT (non dealer service). All went fine except i was told two of my exhaust brackets were broken to the exhaust was hanging on with only bolts.

Apparently you can't buy the brackets and the only option is a new exhaust (c. £300 which is a sickener).

Can anyone recommend any alternatives to this expensive fix to what seems like a small problem! The exhaust is fine so it seems like a real waste.

At that price you would be as well spending your cash on an after market exhaust...

I was also told by SEAT that they couldn't replace the brackets... I had to get the mid section and back box done on mine, luckily for me though the car was still under warranty so it was a freebie!

This seems to be quite a common thing on leons, same happened to mine while in for service they noticed it, and welded the mounts back to the exhaust... cost £20.00.

yep had exactly the same myself....(04 LC with 36k on it) just had the mounts welded back on at JKM.....will do nicely until I decide which aftermarket exhaust to get.....no point getting standard replacement as it costs more!

Yup. just got back from my MOT and sure enough the mount just b4 the rear silencer was hanging off.

Just gotta find some little chavy kid and a exhaust place to weld the bad boy back on !!

problem is the brackets are broken off and area gonner completely. Do you think a part could be manufactured or a jubilee clip used as an interim fix?

My LCR is goin in for service and MOT on tuesday so I took it to a local garage y'day for a quik check-up in case there were any small faults that I could have sorted and yep one exhaust bracket is off rite before the back box andthe fella couldnt weld it back as it was too close to the tank...plus he spotted sum rusting to the box............which means that it will soon start to blow!!
......yep, new exhaust for me too


....just to add, yep jubilee clip did the trick for a quick fix!!

Likewise with mine last year just before the warranty ran out,except it was just the back-box.Obviously a known issue.You think they could do something about it to stop it happening.

I had the same problem, it would have either needed a new centre section or an aftermarket exhaust........ so i opted for a Milltek!!

hmm. Rather than go for an OEM I might go after market. Has anyone tried the piper exhausts (sticky at the top of the forum?) Any good? is it boomy (i like the subtle approach to exhaust notes )

Also if i were to fit an after market exhaust like Piper mid section through to silencer would this count as a modification for insurance purposes. Would it actually up performance or effectively just perform as a replacement.

As far as insurance is concerned there will be little or no BHP raise, when driving the car the exhaust will be less of a restriction therefore freer reving and accelerating
There are at least two sound clips in the piper stickies
Both towards the last few pages, start at last and work forward
As far as people have said and what I have heard its a PERFECT system, in all ways

Yeah I had the same problem.
Just took the rubber mount of the car [was still attached to the body mount] & took for re-test.
The Guy went to fail it again so I told him I was going to appeal & he passed it.
The MOT regs state [I'll paraphrase] that the exhaust has to be securely mounted along its whole length,it doesn't state how many mounts it needs.
As long as the front & rear mounts are good & the exhaust is not dragging or drooping you will win your appeal.
MOT testers don't like appeals because if they get too many the DOT starts getting sniffy with them.
