Airbag problems tend to be expensive mate, could be its been in a small bump thats messed the sensors as well.

diagnostics program - plug into the serial port on the car & login, and reset

but it could be something else....

Well im looking to buy the car, 66k miles, standard, £3700. U recom its worth it or just steer clear

connector under the seat has maybe come undone or theres a broken wire under the seat, if thats the case, its an easy fix, then use vagcom to reset the light.

dont mean to sound dumb, whats vagcom. How do you reset it.

Cheers

Valeters sometimes are a bit keen with the hoover under the seats and they trip the light if the cables under there are disterbed.

I bought my 53 plate cupra with the A/B light on and my garage at the time cleared it for me. It was where the after market head unit and changer had been fitted, and the cables had been disconnected with the battery still live. It will clear if thats all it is.

fair enough,

So even if it is just the switch under the seat or by the head unit, do you still need to recet the ECU, will not just unpluging the battery for a little while reset it. Works with hondas.

I just dont want to have to fork out for a new arbag or something

Interesting thread.ive just picked up my lcr which has been damaged repaired and the airbag light is on,so i suppose its a trip to the dealers for me!!

You need someone with VAG-COM. You can use this to reset the light... Or its dealer time...

As long as the wiring is sound then it will be ok.

Martin, I don't think disconnecting the battery will work bit its worth a try.

Mines been on for ages,

I had to swerve on the motorway to avoid debris in the road, and that set it off.
Vag com was used and it said that its the seat airbag that is affected.

So its not right to say that its definately had accident damage

I was just about to post on this, but saw this thread.

I had a handsfree kit installed last week which although damage free, involved some wiring and a junction box to be fitted behind the glovebox.

Ever since then the light has been on, and the installer said it's common as the plug came out behind the passenger airbag, and even though it's now back in and functional, the light comes on. I have tried switching it off and on again inside the glovebox with the key.

Though I have no reason to disbelieve him, is this true that the light stays on if it's been disrupted and recommissioned? I don't want to go to Seat next month for my 30k service and have them charge me a load of money to reset it. Will vagcom tell them it's OK but has just been disconnected?

Thanks

Rob

VAG-COM will tell you that the plug had been disconnected and it will clear the fault if you delete the code.

As long as you are happy that the plug is connected now and the airbag is functional, I would get someone to do it for you to save some money. Unless Seat will do it for free....

If its not functional, the code won't clear anyway. It will just keep coming back.

took it to seat, they said it was the main control unit, £300 to replace

will look for somethere to get it done cheaper

Cheers for you help guys
