297lbs/ft

Hi ppl, I'm getting the car remapped on Wednesday by Angel Tuning, I told the fella that I don't want to go any higher than 300lbs/ft of torque, the guy said he recommends 297lbs/ft of torque! (however I said I wanted it at around 280lbs/ft really). Will this be too high and wreck my clutch? Or will it be okay? I just want the fun and not the expense of buying an uprated clutch etc! Cheers

I have 296 lb/ft and am looking at a new clutch now...

It will last a while if you don't 'boot' it below 2000rpm, I kinda forgot this for about a year because I didn't know my power output, found out in september it was 296 lb/ft and its starting to show signs of 'replace me fool'

Cheers mate! I try not to boot it below 2000rpm but sometimes you can't help it!! Do you reckon it will be covered in a warranty from the dealer (bought second hand)? Because I still have over a year on the warranty!!
I could handle it going in a years time, I'll put £1 away each day to pay for it affer a year!! Lol

Its £700 for an uprated clutch - best put £2 a day away mate

Pass, I know one guy got his clutch changed but his was brand new, they might notice a map if they take it out!?

My new Cupra has had 298lb/ft for 3 and a half years and guess what, it has never slipped.

I had a customer with a 160k PD130 Golf the other day, remapped from 10k and yes, no clutch slip ever!

To those that kill clutches, do you know how to drive? Sounds harsh, but I REALLY don't get it!

Its my clutch release bearing that's going, not the clutch but priced up just in case

Well the original clutch started slipping on my Ibiza - yes probably because I was booting it too low - but when it was replaced (another standard one) I'd learnt to drive it and not kill the clutch - and did about another 60k miles without problem.

Then I got the Passat - same engine, and got it remapped. The clutch slipped REALLY easily, anywhere between 2000-3000 rpm, in 4th, 5th or 6th - impossible to drive around or avoid, and I hadn't mistreated it at all.
Had the peak torque pegged back to around 270-280lbft, and it's been fine ever since.

I think it's luck of the draw whether your clutch holds out or not.

Well my old Tdi was exceptionaly high torqu at 330lb/ft. It was ok for 9 months running around on standard clutch. The day i part ex'd it for the Mini i ended up burning the clutch like a match, it slipped like a bitch. but that was because i caned the living shite out of it as i had literally just done the deal on the mini.

After that i drove it like a saint, and the garage never noticed,

Main thing is don't worry. If you gave me a car with just 40lb/ft i could wreck the clutch for you, its not hard. It just means you learn to drive it properly and use the gears more.

As above, it's not all down to how you drive it.
Having learnt to drive 60k slip-free miles in the Ibiza, I drove the Passat as carefully as poss and could not avoid slippage at all.

thats cos you got a fatboy passatt, the weight will make a huge difference.

on a light car like the Ibiza its possible to avoid slip

It's a lot lower geared than the Ibiza though, to compensate.

So you's would recommend driving it more sensibly, i.e. don't cane it from low down, do you's suggest flooring it from over 2000rpm if needed, so I should neva just floor it in a high gear, should I just be giving it half throttle, wait for the revs to build and then floor it???

no offense mate but WHAT is the point in remapping a diesel if you cant nail it till after 2000rpm they dont rev enough as it is! let alone restricting it even more! imo

id get a remap when you can afford a clutch upgrade aswell just my opinion good luck tho
