Heed some advice from all you good people out there!

My Alteas pads and discs have decided to give up the ghost so I was wondering does anyone have an opinion on whether to go for Seat standard pads again or go for something else?

Had Black Diamond cross drilled discs and Green Stuff fast road pads before albeit they were fitted to my first love my mint Clio Williams and they were awesome :-o but in a slightly different car now

Also has anyone else suffered from very noisy/grinding sounding brakes from Seat when new?

Thanks in advance!

My current (SEAT ones) do grind etc etc.

My brakes had a grindy noise near end of stopping but changed rear pads and has stopped, have rear discs too but not got them on yet. Went for normal replacements on rear and pads alone i can feel a difference. may change fornt pads soon too. Rears wore out quicker than the fronts i found!

Did you change the pads yourself?

Have a chat to BremboBill/Badger5 on here - he's got a forum shop on here and looks to know his stuff. I'm keen for someone to try Ferrodo DS2500 in an altea......

I have Ds 2500's on my 200sx,and with a 310mm disk, the braking is very good, and they don't overheat on trackdays :flag:

where would i get the DS2500's from for the Altea?

Also can they the used with standard discs?

Yes they can be used on standard dics, its the caliper that defines it,a bigger disc will just give more leverage to your braking and larger discs will cool a bit better!
I haven't found my way round the traders for SEAT stuff yet,but these ferodos will probably be about £110 :-o

It is easy to do. wheel off, two bolts, pads out, rewind piston, clean surfaces, new pads in and caliper bolts in and wheel on. All done.

You dont have to rewind the front caliper, just the rears,

If you have a go at doing the fronts, just undo the cap on the master cylinder to allow for any fluid expantion as you push the pistons back in, of course remember to tighten it,lol.

Rear Carrier bolts,

Ok, I'm planning on changing my rear disks and pads this coming weekend. Could someone please tell me what tool I need to remove the carrier bolts, and anything else I may need to look out for. I'm trying to preempt any issues or lack of tools before I start. I already have the windback tool, but will need to source any specialist tools. Thanks in advance.

I am having this problem! am 11mm Allen key is required, i bought a 12mm and a is just too big. Socket fit allen key is best with a breaker bar and wd40. gonna have a go with new allen key at weekend. 13mm and 15mm spanner too, usual wie brush, screwdriver for leverage and scraping pad guides etc.

if either of you do this at the weekend... could you please take pics of each stage and post a mini DIY guide?

Cheers!

Yes my Altea still has that grinding noise from the brakes, pads are ok must try some others when change needed.

Mine had a chamfer cut on the top and bottom, bout 2mm wide over width of pad, matched lip on disc, also on two of the pads, had same grove but a bit of pad missing on outer edges.

i'd stick to standard pads they seem more than up to the job... I used EBC Greenstuff pads on my clio 182 and was not impressed .. not much bite.. faded somewhat on hard driving and suffered surface cracking so changed back to standard pads... my current car has Brembos and they are supurb but I will try Ferrodo DS2500's when the time to change them comes ,heard loads of good reports on them.
