Suggestions for a new aftermarket head unit for Ibiza FR 56 plate, or any other ibiza

Hi guys

I have been searching though these forums and while there is some information there isnt anything that I think would answer my question.

Hopefully through asking these following questions the thread could become a sticky and help everyone else like me!

Basically, I have bought a new head unit with most of the options I was looking for however its a bit pants on the radio reception (just found out that this is due to the fact it has no built in booster) and doesnt keep settings (just found out red and yellow wires need swapping). It doesnt fit in the top slot where my current one is and the most important thing is I have lost the controls on the steering wheel which I have become quite partial to! So I am going to take it back and spend the right amount of money on the right one.

However this is where I get stuck so I am rather hoping that the good people on these forums can come up with some suggestions. Rather than go through loads of things here is my wish list of must haves and nice things to have but can do without.

My must haves:

1. Must be able to fit top slot where factory fitted unit is.
2. Must be able to use steering wheel controls. even if I have to buy third party connectors, just able to use it!
3. Must have built in bluetooth so I can take calls through the car speakers.
4. Must have mp3 playback from cd.
5. Must have built in radio booster as I cannot stand to be without decent radio!

And here are my list of likes but not essentials:

1. Ipod connector. By this I mean a proper one where I can choose the tracks etc easily and not have to fiddle around, and most importantly can actually access the files within the itunes and not just in hdd mode
2. able to still use the aux 3.5 phono jack I have built in

If I can remember any more I will add them later but I hope this great community can come up with some suggestions to this problem!

if it doesnt come with a built in radio booster you can buy an adapter for about a fiver that will allow you to get better reception, they are available from halfords. They just plug into the back of the headunit. As for the steering wheel controls for most headunits you can buy an adapter that will fit in the back and allow the steering wheel controls to connect up, if im correct i think they have to be headunit specific, i.e. a JVC one for a JVC headunit...
and as for headunits, there are loads to choose from, but at the moment halfords do have a large sale on there selection of headunits. You should be able to pick up everything you want from your headunit for about £100 - £150ish.

I just fitted my Pioneer P65BT head unit and I am chuffed with it. It set me back about £180 (incl. delivery) and it is everything I need. I will post a pic of it for you to see what it looks like during day and at night, the dual colour zone selection is quite handy as it lets you choose the illumination colours according to the car's. Once set up, my phone connects upon engine start-up and the aerial adaptor does not need a booster. You'll need to play around with it to get used to it though.

All I need now is the stalk adapter so I can use the steering wheel mounted controls.

Oh and it also picks up the Aux input by the handbrake! As for the iPod connection you'll need to by a BUS adapter so you can stick the iPod connector in the glove box (or wherever you like)

Yes...or you can have all incl. iPod!! This HU is the "Bees-knees" hehehe it can even control a tv if you ever decide to install 1.

It has a seperate iPod (and CD changer i believe) connection and 2 Aux inputs along with much more. Once again, I'd recommend this HU to anyone.

PS. You can buy an optional remote with it for an extra £20 i believe.

I am still trying to find the Stalk adapter for this unit...if you find a compatible 1 before me let me know.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. At the moment it looks like buy the head unit and then a few add ons later, to fully get what I want.

The DEH-P65BT looks very good and I have found one on ebay for £147 delivered with 12 months warranty.

Assuming that I can also get the adapters this might be one I go for but I am interested to know what else people can possibly suggest, that is maybe a bit cheaper. If it turns out this is what I have to go for then so be it!

Im on the look out for the exact same specs, im swayed towards an alpine hu...the sound quality is second to none...

Ive had a pioneer i the past and wasnt impressed...

This HU is the best within it's market at this price (with the features that it presents). There are many others like it but they will not have as many functions as this 1 has for the price you pay.

thanks for the heads up nicky, im was only speaking from past experience...

How does yours compare to the ALPINE-CDA-9885R, my mate has this and im tempted by it...sounds well even on standard speakers in his leon. Thanks for any input or advice you can give me!

I've looked at the ALPINE-CDA-9885R and it is good, but most of the features are optional whereas on the P65BT they all come as standard (excluding iPod and CD changer connections). My girl's dad has the top model of these Alpine series (which he paid about £800 for at the time) and personally I think the P65BT not only looks snazier in the car but also has a lot in it that you won't find in any other HU for a cheaper price especially as standard. Also very easy to use may seem complicated at first but I got the jist of it after a day or 2.

Oh, forgot to mention that I have this on standard system which is quality in my FR (Harmon-Kardon I believe)

I have spoken to the guys at Pioneer UK and there isn't a remote adapter for Seat Ibiza's from 06 onwards It should be coming out with the new generation of adapters in near future...I think I can wait

Just a pain about the steering wheel controls. Is this defo going to come out for the ibiza at some point?

Whats the ipod connectivity like? I assume that as soon as the steering wheel controls are had that this becomes an even more viable option.

Take it this sounds very good with all the different input methods?

And one last question for now who is cleaning your car? It looks immaculate? I need mine doing big time!! Not all my fault, didnt get it back in stunning condition from the repair shop after a lorry decided to argue with me!

lol sorry to hear you've already had to have some surgeory done and i haven't connected an iPod to it yet as i don't have one. The bluetooth works a treat and is shown as on (the lil blue led), also shows phone battery and reception.

as to the cleanliness it's probably down to the fact that i'v only had the car 2 1/2 weeks...but I already had to scrub out bits of chocolate off my back seats! i don't let anyone smoke or eat anything that can stick or melt in the car...tend to wash it every 2-3 weeks and inside spring clean every month roughly. Had to clean it proper since i came back from brands hatch last weekend as was well muddy and got all over my new carpets lol

The steering adapter "should" be coming out as I don't see any reason to it not doing so. I called up both pioneer and connects 2 and both said the same. Just have to keep checking. The one that they currently suggest is a quad adapter which isn't compatible.
