DPJ,

Care to shed anymore light on this? ways to fix it/ where the fault is etc... i always thought it was me revving to hard and then dipping the clutch.

Thanks

Rob

Had a similer issue with my leon, when the clutch pedal was replaced. when ever i change gear, the revs stay high for a second or 2.
Solution was the clutch pedal switch not sitting correctly causing a delay every time the pedal is pressed.

My car used to do this as well.Accelerate till about 4.5k rpm then press clutch and revs would rise another 500rpm.
Mine was cured when i changed a split hose near the dipstick but this may be just coincidence as i have heard it's something to do with a switch on either the clutch or accelerator.
You will need to do a search on vwvortex to find the cure.

DPJ thanks for editing the title to make search easier. However, the revs can also rise when you lift off and not change gear - seems to take off on its own! not just when you depress the clutch pedal.

Spent an hour on vw vortex and it seems to be a common fault. The two main things that their threads point to are;

split vacuum hose under the intake manifold and

the switch on the clutch pedal.

I shall go and have a look!

What is the switch on the clutch pedal for? It is a bit like the brake light switch on the brake pedal!

Well not 100 sure, it cuts down the gas to prevent over reving when changing between gears  Its also play a prt if you have cruise control fitted

What you are talking about is a fault. Your cars should not be doing this.

Restricting the hose to the bypass valve from 19mm dia to 5mm dia would be an extremely silly thing to do.

Like I said this was a fix for the ST200 which worked a dream on many ST's.. I can't say the same for a LCR

My car does something similar in reverse. When you go down through the gears, it seems to hold onto the revs, so when you depress the clutch, instead of the usual dip in revs, it seems to almost coast between gears with no seeming drop in revs.

Most weird. I just get over it by putting foot straight back on accelerator.

Not sure if anyone has experienced this but my car seems to drive better when I have heavier shoes on......not just because heavier shoes mean you're putting more weight on the accelerator :headhurt:

Wondered if it there is a switch / sensor under the accelerator which senses weight. It's probably that I am thick..

I have this problem of the revs going up between gear changes on my stock (@ the moment) 2001 1.6 16V.. seems to be worse the more sedate u drive...

think i'll try the battery disconnection route first after i've fitted my green panel filter, smoothed out the filter housing and given the throttle body a good clean.

I'd suggest anyone having this problem of the revs going up should check VAG-COM logs or take it in to a dealer. It plain shouldn't be doing it. I'd say it's either a sticking throttle body, position valve, or the accelerator sensor is sticking.

The revs not dropping straight away isn't an issue as such, some cars take a second before the revs fall but the revs going up is a problem.

Pete

PS. I'm assuming you can all drive and so discounting you not taking your foot off the gas during gear changes... :p

mine does it too. I have just put a brand new throttle body on too. only does it if the revs are below 2k though, or at least I have not noticed it when thrashing it.

snap

Hi guys ,
Got exactly the same problem see my earlier post here
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=162585

has any one came up with a cure? , mines been doing it bout 5 months now and i have cleaned my forge valve , taken throtle body off and given it a good clean but still no change to the problem.
Might bite the bullet and drop into my stealers and see what they say.

Also noticed yesterday that i have lost 10 psi or so according to my boost gauge , used to spike around 21 psi and drop and hold around 15 psi , now spikes between 10 and 15 psi and holds a steady 10 psi , have looked for the usual split hoses , cant see anything wrong .
Car is 2003 cupra with revo remap.

Would appreciate some help.

Thanks
