Need some advice on how best to keep a car looking great. At the moment i just wash the car with Autoglym Bodywoork shampoo conditioner and then dry the car with a Chamois...

I am sure i can do much better but have no idea...

As a newbie myself I recently learnt about the 2 bucket method for washing a car (1 for soap and the other a rinse bucket to keep things clean) and how its best to use a woolen mitt of something with a deep pile rather than a sponge to wash it so you don't end up draging fine grit over the car and over time putting feint swirls into the paintwork. Think a similar things goes for chamois leathers compared with fabric cloths such as the meguiars water magnet, chamois could just drag dirt over the paint.

Other than that I tend to apply Autoglym's Super Resin Polish every now and again to give it more of a shine. There are a whole world of waxes and everything else like that but I'm starting small, reading the forums and learning what are the sort of things to do above and beyond the basics you mention above.

Some good advice here on Polished Bliss

Started with Autoglymn's bodywork shampoo but found it never gave too great a lather, now use Meguiars NXT Car Wash which if you can't find it cheaper from any car shops Halford do it. Am sure others on here will have further suggestions too.

The Autoglym shampoo doesnt foam as its not really supposed to. I found this a bit odd when I started using it but, it saves washing all the foam off. I switched to using Chemical guys maxi suds and prefer it, although its a pain to get and fills my street with bubbles. Invest in some microfibre polishing cloths and a good sized chamois and some super resin polish. The other suggestion would be to not start cleaning your car because you'll get addicted. Instead of buying random stuff when you have money burning a hole in your pocket, you will find yourself buying random tins of wax and detailing products.

Tell me about it, my brother is going to the US next week for business and I'm looking to order some Zymol wax to his hotel room because its the same in pounds over here as it is in dollars over there. £46 for a tub of wax is far too expensive!

I did recently buy some of the blue dodo juice wax and have purposely booked 3 days off to clean my car

Sad isnt it !!!?

Im also going to sort my exhaust out and paint my brake calipers
