Engine Rattle PD130

CRAIG TDI

Hi guys. My car has developed a very loud noise in the engine. The car is still working fine just with the added noise. The only way I can describe is like somone has put a few bolts into a washing machine a turned it on. It only make the noise when firstly the engine is warm and secondly when the engine is at idle (slightly quieter when the clutch is in).

Anyone else had this problem or could advise what this could be?

exhaust heatshield or just exhaust - shifting once car is warm and rattling against something???
Or perhaps clutch release bearing?

I don't think it's the heat shield as i can feel it through my clutch pedal

I get what I can describe as a rattle/grinding noise coasting up to junctions out of gear and when I put the clutch in it nearly goes away and once its put in gear it completely stops! is it like that?

Turns out it was my flywheel that was on it's way out. Also clutch was worn. Brand new of both bits all under warrenty. Happy days!!!

I know and its a 53 plate aswell. The guy I bought it off had a Seat dealer warrenty with it. I paid £20 to have it transfered and i'm glad I did. £900 it would of cost me for parts and labour

i had a bolt come out of the exhaust bracket that caused a major rattle and clonk

Which exhaust bracket? Got a problem with a low pitch rattle on an FR petrol - makes no difference what speed or if it's on throttle or on brakes. Had the car off the deck and checked suspension etc but that's fine - it's driving me f_ing mental and it's starting to get worse.

Cheers
