So other people's look the same? It's nothing to worry about? What about the bonnet being stupidly hot? (almost too hot to touch) Anyone else in the same boat?

depends what your using the car for, if its in the city alot then i would guess yes, it will become very hot, however, if your blasting up and down main roads, then with the airflow its going to be much cooler (which is how mine is with revo remap).

Can you remove the plastic engine cover easily - I assume if it is excessive heat from engine bay it would be obvious, otherwise it would point to the felt stuff under the bonnet.

Yeah, I was wondering if it was something to do with the bonnet lining. I removed the engine cover at the time I took the picture and everything looked fine (no melted plastic!). As for how I'm using the car, it's the same if I've just come off the motorway - I'll get home and find the bonnet is cool, but you can feel the heat coming up through the gap between the bonnet and wing and after a few minutes both get really hot...which makes me wonder how hot the engine is getting...

:lol:Hi guys just a quick note regarding the bonnet felt , had mine replaced under warranty not long ago because of sagging on the engine cover, also was leaving burn marks.Funny enough seat have modified this with more clips to afix the problem[B)]

Got mine booked in for a custom remap from VSport in Boldon. Hoping for a decent torque improvement and a few extra BHP, Hopefully an improvement in MPG too.
Anyone else had a remap on a Leon FR 170 from VSport?

Samson yeah i got mine done there! running around 190 bhp and carnt remember torque ill have a look for it! it will be somewhere safe but stupid cos our lass has put it some where think its 280 (rings a bell for some reason) keep me informed with ya results! cos reading other threads people are getting better results!

Is that stock?

Mapped up you should be running 200 - 212bhp and 325+ lbs/ft torque

i thort that! yeah its mapped i might contact them and see what the crack is. cos i was expecting abit more than that!

They showed me a set of dyno results from another 170 (golf I think) which had 196bhp... Can't remember the torque now :(
They did say there was more to be had but this would come at higher revs or something?
The wife drives this car more than me and she comments that it does not seem as fast as the Golf GTTDI 150 we had. I think it is as quick if not quicker but does lack torque over the 150 I think.
It goes in on Saturday 12th so we will see what figure we end up with.
Just hope I can feel a difference:blink:

shaunbuckaroo, Can you actually tell that it has been remapped?

Will post results asap

Cheers

Regarding the scorch marks, my mk2 cupra has these on the engine....not much...but i can deffo see it.. should i take it back to the dealers to check out the lining?

I would take it back... Better safe than sorry:)

Had our car remapped today. Here are the figures, before and after

Before - 169 BHP and 252ft/lb torque

After - 194.9 BHP and 320 ft/lb torque

Not massive gains but the torque curve looks very good with a gain of 110ft/lb at 2400 rpm compared to standard.
Looking forward to see what difference (if any) it has made as I have not drove it yet:( (wife picked it up and never got opportunity to "test" it)

Thats the first time i've heard of a standard fr putting out less than the quoted figure, they're normally over 180bhp.

Still, a useful gain achieved, hope you have fun testing it!

That sounds like mine aswel about same power and the same increase at 2400! Have you had it for a run out yet?
My car was also below170 at standard the RR might be out abit!

Its mapped 212.5 BHP @ 4032 and 335.1lb/ft @ 2507 Only been for a short drive but feels loads quicker turbo spools up quicker loads more power all across the rev range!

Yeah, I heard that they normally hit more than 170 as standard too...

And as shaunbuckaroo noted, he had similar figures to mine on the same rolling road. Perhaps the rollers are out.. who knows:confused:

We had a roling road day there recently with MX-5 club and most cars seemed to be lower than expected.

I'm not too worried about what bhp it achieved to be honest. All I was after more torque and smooth delivery of power.

I took it out for a blast last night and at first thought not much had changed but when you floor it, different story!

Loads more grunt at lower revs right up the rev range. mpg has gone up by 1.1 mpg over what we normally see... maybe more on a long run.

mikey-typer,

I would like to see your graphs to compare to mine to see where your power is most and what the torque curve is like:)

I'm going to email vsport and see what the crack is with us only getting around 195bhp and others getting 212bhp seems abit daft why I carnt get it abit unhappy with mine on paper happy with the performance and drive of the car. But also like better figures to Match to be honest I was expecting more from mine when I took it in!
