Changing rear brake pads...

Ok, so anyone got a step by step / instuctions on how to do this for numptys?

So far I think I have to:

Remove handbrake, bricks behind front wheels
Jack it up - remove wheel
Take off clip
Slide out pads
Rotate some piston clockwise making sure it fluid doesn't come out somwhere in the engine bay
Put in new pads
Put back clip
Put wheel back on and remove jack, move to side 2.

I'm sure I'm wrong somwhere...

Rear wheels off the deck and remove wheels
Disconnect handbrake cable
Unbolt the caliper from the carrier(i'm not sure you can get away with just undoing the lower one and swinging the caliper upwards)be very careful when handling the caliper as the swages on the flexi brake hoses are fickle as anything
Remove pads
Windback the piston using the correct tool
Fit new pads
Refit Caliper
Reconnect Handbrake cable

i never disconnected my handbrake and its fine, I did buy the tool from halfords but it was a pain in the arse as i had worn the pads down so low it didnt fit in.

Still, easier than not using one from what I read?

Where is the cap in the bonnet I need to open for the fluid to move back up?

yeah i took the cap off. its blue and big and circular reservoir,

I sheered the rear brake line whilst undoing the back of the caliper! Beware and be careful and all should be well.

I need to get around to doing my rears, but I got a little tool from the local motor factors - it's a "cube" with the different locating pins on each face, but it connects to a 3/8 drive wrench so you can use that to push it back with - will hopefully give it a go at the weekend weather permitting

That won't work I'm afraid. I tried one of those before getting the correct windback tool, you need to be able to provide force as well as rotation

How about hitting it with a large rubber mallet at the same time LOL

Sounds like I need to talk to my mate with a Halfords Trade Card to get one of the proper windback tools

I wish this stuff came out off a savings account I don't have rather than my credit card!

Mate id be happy to help you if you like seeing as i have the tools already piece of piss to do as well. once you know how.

haha only just seen this - I would've taken you up on the offer, mine was a PITA on o/s as pads were too low so I couldnt fit in the wind back tool.

I need to change my rear brake pads and discs, on a 1.6 leon sx 2004, would prefer to save a little bit and do it myself, however i dont have any expirience in this, and have never seen it being done, does anyone know any links to a walk through guide with pics or videos? or is it just better to have it done in a garage?
