Hi all,

This is my first post here so go easy on me ;)

When a start my leon cupra TDI from cold it always turns over first time but sometimes only just and judders a bit. I also always get lots of grey crap coming out of the exhaust. I've noticed the glow plug light only comes on for a second, never any longer, even when cold. This is my second mk1 leon diesel and I'm pretty sure the glow plug light stayed on for longer on my last one. It's '04 but only done 30k, could my plugs need replacing?

Cheers

ive got the same problem, not sure about the grey smoke though, ive never watched it on start up, doubt its the glowplugs tbh mate. You got a code reader or vag-com? i know mines giving a code of G62 coolant temp sensor, so im gonna replace it and see if it makes any difference.

Nah, not got a code-reader (some advise on getting one or software/cable would also be cool ;) )

Would appreciate you letting me know if the coolant temp sensor change helps.

I will do as soona s i find out which type i need for an ASV engine lol. Im pretty sure its the green "D" shape one. but im not 100%. Vag com im not sure about and ive never used it, but i think its around £100 from ross-tech for the lead and license to the software. Code readers are about £50-£100 on ebay for a decent one with a large read out. You can get cheaper ones which will give you jus the numbers and then you compare those againt a list/google.

You could get a scangauage if you wanted, around the same price and gives code's plus tells you your MPG and stuff. Have a sear for scanguage in here, there are a few threads.

I wouldnt if i were you tbh. You will still need the license and they are 100% reliable, with one from ross-tech, you've got some comeback if it doesnt work. I's up to you though, could work as they arnt exactly rocket science, but have a read up on the ross-tech wiki page first:

most 01-on have the green d-shape sensor (059919501A) usually its the early models with the square plug (059919501)

Actually got a mate with VAG cable and licensed software so I'll get it checked ASAP.

Yep, just checked with vag-com.
