Just had a new clutch and flywheel fitted under warranty at the dealers because the other had worn. Now, the car is remapped and it was always pretty quick however after getting it back it seems to be quite a bit more sluggish than before it went in! I was wondering if the parts might need to wear in or something? I've done a few hundred miles since but still the same.
Car is a MK2 FR TDi.

Have they had the battery disconnected - perhaps set it back to stock?.

I couldn't say whether they had the battery disconnected - would they have needed to in order to so this work? Surely the map wouldn't be lost if the battery is disconnected would it??? I'll have a look at the connectors in the light and see if it looks like they might have been pulled off recently (scratching on the lead etc)

Also, they never mentioned about updating the software.

I'm a bit dubious about ringing up and asking as they might say "oh, it was remapped, well that invalidates your warranty.." etc...

How old is Your car? My FR TDI is from April 2007 and had soft update in September. It needed new remap then.

if they disconnected the battery the car reverts back to stock you will have to go to your tuner and they will put you back to performance for free or a small labor fee

same if they updated the software ecu

My car is an 06 model (one of the early ones!). It was done by pendle performance in Barnoldswick.

I'm wondering why they would reflash the ECU when changing a clutch though?!?

Also, could this be an indication that the map was a bad one?

There was ECU soft update for older FR TDI cars, if You haven't done that before they probably did it while changing flywheel and clutch.

hmmm.... I need to ring them up anyway so I might try and find out - they never gave me a copy of the invoice for the repair as it was delivered to work and they just dropped it off at the security lodge.
Would they get a bit arsey if they knew it was mapped?

Just tell them that You have heard that there was update for FR TDI and that You would like to know if Your one needs it.

As leviathan18 said in such case tuner should remap it again for free.

Good idea - I guess they'll keep it on record. Hopefully they won't find it a bit suspicious.
Where would I say I have heard? Is it a publicised fact?

Ok, if they ask why then I'll just say something like I read on the internet that a common cause of clutch problems was that the ECU needed updating on old FRs (bullshit but at least it will get an answer from them lol!)
I'll be pissed off if they have done though!!! I looked on the tuners website and can't find anything about putting a map back on but I seem to remember they wanted about 50 or 80 quid to remove a map so I'm assuming they would want the same. If so then I'll be extra pissed off! I know it's not their fault however a bit of decency would say they would do.

I would just go back to the remappers and ask them to re-flash it again ... saves the hassle of highlighting anything with the dealer.

Most remappers are well aware that they will need to remap some cars again (and do this free or for a very small charge £10 say) after the dealer does software updates to the ecu.

I've emailed the guy who mapped it so hopefully he'll reply soon. If not I'll give him a ring during the week.
Then again my passenger seatbelt warning isn't working so it'll be going into the dealers for that soon - i'm probably better off waiting in case they decide to mess with anything again! :(

The guy's emailed me back - they want £125 to re-do it! I'm gutted - I'm not paying that much for it to be re-written when they have already done it yet I've already paid three hundred quid to have it done less than 6 months ago!! :(

Hey... Just call your tuner and re-flash it... It cost something maybe, but you dont have to deal nothing with your dealer, which could avoid maybe your warranty ;)
